the pain, the chronic anemia, the increased risk of infection, the emotional and social burden, the anxiety not knowing when a crisis will occur, constantly having to planning around our health, frequent hospital visits/admissions.. i could go on and on 😭😩
@cvndyrella_ can someone explain why sickle cell is so horrid to live with ive heard it gives you less oxygen but it gives immunity to malaria or something like that (i forgot what exactly) is it really that difficult to live with more than

Having the sickle cell trait and knowingly choosing to have children with someone who also has the trait is irresponsible, there’s no way to spin that one.

If you and your partner KNOW you are carriers, you have a duty to put aside your bioessentialist and irrational desires to have biological children regardless of your genotype. And you don’t donate blood?! Nah, get out. It is so unbelievably unfair to the child. It’s wrong.

I’m glad we’re flogging people recklessly having children knowing they are carriers of the Sickle Cell trait. Sickle Cell is VERY serious, my goodness. I still burst into tears at the memories of my sister in hospital literally passing out & losing her voice from crisis pain.

During my pediatrics rotation, I saw dozens of kids die from Sickle Cell-related crises. They were in soul-crushing pain till the very end. Perhaps you may not fully understand the gravity of this disease and why we should all fight tooth and nail to prevent any members of the
