I’d like to add linguistic context to “ primitive” The root word is “primus” ( Latin for first) / “ primitivus” ( Latin for earliest of its kind). Linguistically, primitive is a term that honours the first. but connotatively, the European colonial lens use it disparagingly.
Meanwhile Africans are called primitive for building like theses.

Yesterday, my sister had her first 2 operations for our bone marrow transplant. She had her Hickmann line put in - It’s a tube connecting to her heart. She also had one of her ovaries removed. She’s 16. -One of the side-effects of BMT is infertility. She’s uncomfortable & sad.
I want to share the Bone Marrow Transplant journey between myself and my sister online. But I’ve spent yesterday holding back tears; stealing moments between appointments to cry; being angry & exhausted and crying all day today. It’s a lot. Sickle Cell isn’t an afterthought.
