Wow. Less than 40% of people drive in the core areas, yet they occupy 80% of the space. What a terribly inefficient transport mode for cities.
.@CBCNews fact-checking claims from Sarkaria that only 1.2% of Torontonians commute by bike. Sarkaria continues to mislead the public, citing "conversations" with unnamed business owners as the reason for spending taxpayer money to tear out existing lanes.

Interesting article by @mrmoneymustache — most of it applies to the next election in Canada as well.

The 1.2 per cent of people who commute by bike shouldn’t be clogging primary roads for the over 70 per cent of people who drive. It’s just common sense.

This is one major reason that I continue to bike to work. Biking takes 13-15 minutes no matter what. Driving takes as little as 12 minutes with no traffic (i.e. after 9 pm) or up to 30 minutes in heavy traffic (i.e. when I actually go to work).
Speed matters, fast transit matters, bikes are good because they are faster than cars in dense urban areas.

During the last “six months of winter” there were exactly 5 days where I found it slightly challenging to ride a bike.
Happy 1st of November, everyone!. For those people, pundits & politicians who observe this important day, today marks the start of 6 months of winter where it's not possible to bike & no one does. For the rest of us, the long range forecast looks good for biking!
