Soaring above me in Jutland, Denmark this a.m. Cornell's @MerlinBirdID ID'd as red kite, but would be fun to know for sure if anyone can tell from these wing patterns? Just a phone photo, womp-womp. (Also have video.) #BirdsSeenIn2024 @Float_photo @Britnatureguide

A5: I've always wanted to take an (in-person) class at King Arthur Baking School in Vermont. It might make a nice leaf-peeping road trip combo! Tried this year, but they were all full months in advance. #travchat (photo credit: King Arthur) @VermontTourism

Underestimate freelancers at your own peril. Originally, ‘freelance’ referred to a medieval mercenary who would fight for whichever nation or person paid them the most. Those tax forms must’ve been nuts to fill out.

I tried smoked puffin when in #Iceland and have regrets. It was slimy and seemed raw, almost like a jamón. An unexpected texture. Worse? I’d enjoyed seeing them nesting the day before at Dyrhólaey beach. #travchat A2

Springtime in Denmark and @mybirdbuddy is quite active with some new-to-me visitors this week, including a Eurasian magpie (right) + a very derpy Eurasian collared dove. (Also pictured: European robin, top left, + common blackbird, top center.) #BirdsSeenIn2023 @Britnatureguide

It’s #RoaldDahlStoryDay! Freia chocolate is an institution in Norway. The Anglo-Norwegian writer took inspiration for #CharlieAndTheChocolateFactory from Freia’s Oslo factory.

When we went down to the beach this morning we noticed it was covered in what looked like a blue film and when we looked closer, we realised it was hundreds of thousands of the tiniest by-the-wind sailors we have ever seen, many smaller than nurdles and fishing beads. #velella

Shopping lists as artwork? Yes, please. Wish I'd seen this earlier, I'm so intrigued by this project. (Two weeks to check it out, in London!) Turns out, it's not just @LucyIrelandGray who collects them, there's a whole internet archive of lists.
