💡Finding ways to reduce this trust gap is key, as trust in scientists is important for accepting recommendations grounded in scientists’ findings and could help speed up action on climate change. 🌍 6/7

➡️Lower trust in climate scientists may reflect the successful efforts of the conservative countermovement to sow doubt about the integrity of climate scientists and their conclusions. 5/7

We investigated the predictors of this trust gap and found that right-leaning and conservative ideologies often predict a stronger negative impact on trust in climate scientists than scientists in general. 4/7

Out of 68 investigated countries, 43 showed lower trust in climate scientists compared to scientists in general, 19 showed no significant difference in trust ratings, and six showed higher trust in climate scientists. 3/7

Over the last decades, climate change countermovements have actively sought to undermine trust in climate scientists and their findings. Yet, little is known about whether trust in climate scientists differs from trust in scientists in general across the world. 2/7

Excited to share our new preprint on extreme weather & climate policy support! 🌍🔥 Over 70K people in 68 countries were surveyed. We found that belief in climate change’s impact on extreme weather boosts climate policy support - but living in affected areas doesn’t always do so.
📢 New Preprint! 🌪️🔥🌡️ Do people in 68 countries (N = 71,922) associate #extremeweather events with #climatechange? Do actual impacts of extreme weather relate to climate policy support? Read our #preprint to find out 👇🧵1/13
