Buyer beware. @StubHub sold me invalid tickets to a Detroit Tigers game and despite their guarantee to refund 120% of the value of the tickets, refuses to do so. There are plenty of ticket resale websites out there. I would suggest steering clear of @StubHub.

HS/college runners: tomorrow is time to get down to business. September is 8 wks away. You have time to lay down a base if you start now. Keep making excuses about heat, work, family vacations & all the sudden, you're out of time & will never catch up. No more excuses. Start now.

When a long run or workout is hard, remind yourself that you're training your mind to endure discomfort. Remember that your best races will be those in which you endured more discomfort than you had in previous races. This will not be easy, but the concept is simple.

So before you go through the work of trying to get hired for this job, ask yourself, “Do I love this sport?” If the answer is yes, pursue all avenues to make it happen. It is absolutely worth it. If the answer is no, find other ways to pay for college. This one isn't for you.

If your sport is simply a means to an end, prepare for 4-5 years of drudgery. More likely, you will quit the sport (or the sport will quit you) before the end of your college career and you will be on your own to pay for school.

If you truly love your sport, this will be the greatest job you’ll ever have. Like any job, not every day is pure joy, but it will be a rewarding experience that will enrich your life in immeasurable ways.

Like any entry-level job, you'll start at the lowest rung of the ladder and will have to work your way up. To advance in your organization (playing time, more scholarship money, etc.), you'll need to outperform older and more experienced people or be patient and pay your dues.

Your dream job begins as soon as you set foot on campus. For 4-5 years, your life will revolve around that job. Practices, weight lifting, study tables…all while attending classes, hopefully having a social life, possibly while working a part-time job to pay your expenses.

You went through the hiring (recruiting) process. Your employer (coach) selected you out of a pool of qualified candidates, which is an honor to be celebrated. Now that you’ve been hired (signed), guess what your employer (coach) expects you to do? Get to work!

Being a college athlete (especially on an athletic scholarship) is a job. Signing a letter of intent (or often these days, a walk-on agreement) is not a final destination any more than being hired for your dream job.

@pntrack @B_Chantos “The problem with kids today” has been a complaint since the beginning of time. This complaint was filed 2400 years ago, yet it’s still unsolved. The problem isn’t the kids, it’s with grown-ups forgetting what it’s like to be a kid.
