The odds that I’ll abandon this platform are pretty high now that Apartheid Kevin will be running the show. I don’t need to enrich a rich asshole even further with my content. Find me on LinkedIn if you wanna stay in touch, folks.

So what they’re saying is that he couldn’t even keep a filing system in order. My undergrads could do better than that.

NARA: "Of most significant concern was that highly classified records were unfoldered, intermixed with other records, and otherwise unproperly [sic] identified."

I’ve spent my career documenting state crimes that were clear as day when they took place but the documentation of which is now buried, rewritten and skewed by elite reputational rehab (and attempts to destroy reputations of journalists.) Twitter is an evidence trail. Protect it.

Musk buying Twitter is a merely symptom of a disease. The disease is control of public discourse by billionaire kleptocrats, extremists, and backers of mafia states. It’s the potential loss of documentation and the ability to track our own history, much less build our own future.

Elon Musk told the United Nations he would give them $6 billion to end world hunger if they showed him a detailed plan of how they would use the money. They called his bluff and gave him their plan— and then they never got the money. Now he’s buying Twitter for $45 billion.

That was fast. The new Florida Board of Education appointee praises a parent for reporting a teacher’s Protect Trans Kids shirt as “unacceptable attire.” This took place yesterday on #TransDayOfVisibility

Material culture/photo nerds: tell me what I should know about these images of my paternal grandmother, circa 1930s. Originals are tiny, no more than 1.5 x 2 inches (smaller, IIRC). What kind of camera made these? A photo booth perhaps?

Your annual reminder that Dr. King believed in guaranteed universal basic income that gave all people a dignified life, guaranteed housing for all, guaranteed access to a high quality education, & said that “no one should be forced to live in poverty while others live in luxury.”

Still a good idea. Today is day 676 of my pandemic journal; what about yours?

Advice from a historian in the Boston area: Start keeping a journal today, ideally a hand written one if that’s within your ability. Write about what you’re seeing in the news, how yr friends are responding, what is closed in yr neighborhood or city or state or country. Save it.

A short thread on Bert the Turtle. I've shown clips of the movie before in class to demonstrate the use of fear during the early Cold War era, but for some reason never saw the short Civil Defense comic book until now. I'm thinking this might be just as frightening as the film.

Here's a book rejection that we just received from a prison in Tennessee: "Malcolm X not allowed." This is part of an insidious pattern of targeted bans by prisons against Black authors and against literature critiquing the prison system and power structures in this country.
