Tit-for-tat redistricting wars, part V: Virginia. Likely targets: #va1 (Wittman) & #va2 (Kiggans). Likely effect of this whole mess: competitive congressional districts move from endangered to extinct.

The surprise move could give Democrats two or three additional House seats and is likely to scramble the last couple weeks of campaigning ahead of the Nov. 4 election.

The new map replaces an only two-year-old congressional map that was already aggressively gerrymandered in Republicans’ favor.

. #ncpol had mid-decade #redistricting in 1966 & 1967. Important to note that both were court-ordered ⬇️pgs 46 & 49 of Orr's "The Persistence of the Gerrymander in NC Congressional Redistricting." (Southeastern Geographer 1969)

Notable that Don Davis is, I believe, a resident of Greene County, so not only did #nc1 become much more Republican, Davis will reside in #nc3 when this map is enacted. Footnote: Members of congress don't have to live in their district, so he could still run in #nc1.

Newly proposed #ncga Congressional redistricting map just dropped. Looks like it swaps a few counties in the east to make NC-1 into a district where Trump got 55% last year, while moving Rep. Don Davis' home county into GOP Rep. Greg Murphy's district #ncpol

Only 3 states are represented by senators of opposing parties -- the lowest number of split delegations in the 100+ years that senators have been directly elected. Only way it goes lower next year is if Susan Collins loses and Dems hold all of their seats.
