Vax: we're hardly doing any 1st, 2nd or 3rd doses. Even though only 57% of pop are boosted. Spring booster programme for 75+ & immuno-suppressed *has* started - so far 12% have had their 4th dose. It basically resets you to just after booster dose. https://t.co/uhqsJQykLS 2/8

How much Covid? more than ever... England now highest ever, Wales already there, Scotland *might* be coming down and NI staying high for ages. For Eng, highest in SW & primary school kids, but rising in all ages & regions. Esp worrying is v high prop of over 70s. 3/8

Number of people in hospital is going up for all nations except NI. It's coming down there, but still high and admissions have been flattish & high for months there. For Eng & Wales, remember that Scotland is about 2 weeks ahead. Likely E&W will follow. 4/8

So - thankfully Scottish admissions have started to come down. Hope Scot has peaked. English admissions tho likely to increase for a bit yet. Both primary & incidental going up and NHS absence going up too :-( 5/8

For deaths with Covid on death cert - (deaths *from* Covid) - NI looks like coming down (just). They've had one big BA.1 & BA.2 wave. E&W is flat but likely to ⬆️soon as recent cases kick in. Scot (2 weeks ahead) saw big 60% increase latest week - highest since Alpha wave. 6/8

While all this is going on, we're wearing masks less - even when symptomatic & covid +ve! - and self isolating less. This does not seem related to income or deprivation. see also @ReicherStephen thread on this. https://t.co/mJQUCpoHzh 7/8

This is a terrible time to stop free testing & I'm worried that govt has not shown any concern at these high levels. It will lead to more short term harm but also much more long covid - and more chances for mutation. I'm wearing my FFP2 & scaling back socialising for now. 8/8

PS thanks as always to Bob Hawkins. PPS if you're eligible for another vax dose (whatever number), go get it.

@chrischirp @SGriffin_Lab Sometimes I think just how evolved We have become, then things like this happen - denial and escapism to avoid inconvenient truths - and I wonder how far society has actually come.

@chrischirp My husband was due to act as front of house at a concert tomorrow night but is 7 days positive. According to the govt. there's no reason he can't still do this. Oh Yes There Is! He's still testing positive and has higher morals than the govt.....but then who hasn't!

@chrischirp @trishgreenhalgh They are dismantling our local covid testing site (tent). It’s just unbelievable. Criminally insane.

@chrischirp I’m so so sorry. You have tried so hard to warn, to speak sense. And just look at this madness. The insanity and tragedy of it all. The sheer waste and disease. I find myself preparing to lose loved ones over the coming months because how can the old and CEV avoid infection? 💔

@chrischirp @danielgoyal Thank you, Prof Pagel, for the data and analysis through the pandemic. I’m at a loss to understand how anyone would be critical of this, or critical of you personally, other than fear of information contrary to a limited worldview. Please continue!

@chrischirp My Daughter is 10, she contracted covid 18 days ago. Right now, she can’t handle noise, light, easily fatigued, having short term memory problems, shooting pains. This is not a “cold”

@chrischirp @IndependentSage I’ve just booked my 8YO daughter her first covid vaccine- they’ve just opened it to book. Just putting this on cos it doesn’t seem to be on the news at all.

@chrischirp I'm in Scotland and had my fourth jag. I was given 2 boxes of lateral flow tests and asked to self test twice weekly.

@chrischirp Thank you…as always. Getting booster Mk2 this week. Not doing anything, apart from essential shopping (masked), until confident some degree of protection regained. Very worrying that Westminster government have abrogated their pandemic responsibility. 🤷♀️

@chrischirp My daughter has recently returned to school after testing positive for 10 days. I see the guidance now is to return after 3 days of feeling better! I don’t know how typical this is as my son was lucky to test negative on day 5 for him…

@chrischirp Why or how?? Does the CV and CEV category no longer exist. Does @sajidjavid and @BorisJohnson think by cancelling us we are a)going to be just fine (NOT, without any hope of getting antivirals, no boosts till 75?! etc) or b)are quietly expendable?

@chrischirp Christina are you able to advise whether someone with weakened immune system ie cev severe asthma is eligible for spring booster? I am a little confused over terminology of weakened immune system does this cover chronic respiratory illness thanks

@chrischirp Any thoughts on the isolation period after a positive test being cut to five days please @chrischirp ? Day 6 post first positive, still positive. Am I corrrct in thinking that LFTs are triggered when you’re actively shedding virus?

@chrischirp Friends tested several times negative although symptomatic and had a relative who tested + after staying. Turns out they were only doing the nasal lft, encouraged them to do throat ones and then tested +. Being sensible they isolated of course. Just FYI for people doing nose only

@chrischirp @guse_guse Chris, do we know if the school holidays are likely to offer any respite at all?

@chrischirp @doctor_oxford Thank you. This is so useful. Is there any data on reinfections? I’m hearing lots catching Covid more than once and within a shorter time period e.g. 1 month later having it again 😔

@chrischirp Ah I see you’ve failed to cover *actually confirmed* cases data. I wonder why that is 🤔

@chrischirp Literally no-one I’ve known or known of who’s had it since the vaccines has suffered serious illness. For most it was a cold, for me it was even less. ICU and excess deaths back this up. Report on that for a change!

@chrischirp Great to see this turning negative now without any knee-jerk reaching for ineffective costly state interventions. We simply cannot afford them.

@chrischirp You are a fear mongerer. Cases are already declining WITHOUT NPI’s. Wanna bet that this decline continues?
