Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark on how they’ve dealt with social media this season.
Boston specifically said she deleted social media to stop seeing the opinions of “couch coaches.”
Caitlin Clark on the interaction:
"I wasn't expecting that, but it's just, 'Respond, calm down and let your play do the talking.' It is what it is.”
She added that she doesn’t want to retaliate, and usually the responding player gets penalized.
A group of people in Navy sailor’s uniforms with Clark jerseys over them were cheering for every shot she took during shootaround.
She went over to sign their hats, and you can see the excitement after!
Kate Martin was supposed to come to a joint pregame, but Caitlin Clark said “she bailed, that’s your headline.”
Still, she talked about what Kate means to her:
The Aces drafted A’ja Wilson with their second-straight No. 1 pick in 2018, went 14-19 and missed the playoffs, then got a third consecutive No. 1 and picked Jackie Young.
Now? Back-to-back WNBA champions.
Christie Sides on Caitlin Clark continuously getting fouled hard and not getting those calls:
Says the Fever have been submitting plays to the league throughout the season for review.
Caitlin Clark on her reaction to Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder retiring — “I probably took off a couple years off of her career” — and her endorsement of Jan Jensen:
Caitlin Clark took a call from Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, who is currently in Brazil, after she was picked No. 1 in the draft.
For Clark, international call fees don’t matter
The No. 1 pick takes on the No. 2 pick tonight, and Caitlin Clark is looking forward to it.
My biggest takeaway: they now have cheez-it logos on the practice jerseys
Some fun tidbits at the end of Caitlin Clark’s media scrum this morning, including:
- her reaction to signing the ultrasound
- wearing NaLyssa Smith and Erica Wheeler’s chains on media day
- if any family, or “bae” is coming to the game tonight
A Hawkeye reunion as Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin, and Megan Gustafson are all on the floor together.
Clark and Martin fight for a rebound the first play; Clark wins
Back in my sophomore year of college, my first covering Iowa, I was the only one waiting for her on a zoom call following a loss to Maryland.
She sat down in front of the camera and went “Chloe!! How are you doing?” No animosity after losing, and happy to answer everything.
The Fever started strong, but ended up running out of gas against the defending WNBA champions -- which makes sense when you're on your seventh game in 12 days.
Observations:
But of a change to the shooting drills, emphasizing long 2-pointers first.
Christie Sides has said she wants her team, specifically Caitlin Clark, to get more comfortable in the mid-range.
Caitlin Clark is a Midwesterner through and through. She chose to stay in Iowa, then quietly hoped the Fever would win the draft lottery.
The Fever did, and now, she's here. And she wants to take this Midwest team back to the playoffs.
Kamilla Cardoso is scheduled to be in Indianapolis tonight for the premiere of the documentary Full Court Press, which follows her, Caitlin Clark, and Kiki Rice through the college season.
It's premiering at the Tobias Theater at Newfields with the red carpet at 4 p.m.
No Kamilla Cardoso or Angel Reese at Sky practice this morning. Both are excused absences for outside commitments, waiting to hear more from coach Teresa Weatherspoon.
Mackenzie Holmes announces she is having surgery to repair a recurring issue with her knee, and she will not be available for the 2024 WNBA season.
She still hopes to be drafted this year, and will be available in 2025.

Grace Berger and Celeste Taylor the first couple players out on the floor about two hours ahead of the game.
With Temi Fagbenle and Erica Wheeler out tonight, there’s a possibility they could get more minutes
Moren: "The way we can honor Mackenzie, the way we can honor Grace, the way we can honor the Ali Patbergs of our program is to come in and do exactly what they do. And they show up and do more than what's required."
#iuwbb
Some defensive run-throughs at practice today.
Both Temi Fagbenle and NaLyssa Smith are in second-team jerseys, but Fagbenle has been primarily working with the starting lineup.
Erica Wheeler was the Fever’s point guard last season. With Caitlin Clark coming in, that’s likely to change.
Still, Wheeler has been one of Clark’s biggest supporters since day one, and she loves being a ‘big sister’ to the rookie.

Caitlin Clark on Fever executives at the game: "It's not something I think about every single day, and obviously I know how well people support women's basketball here. I think that's pretty evident when we take a trip to Purdue, to Indiana, but my focus is just on Iowa."
Caitlin Clark and Erica Wheeler out for early warmups.
Doesn’t look like there’s any lingering pain for Clark with her ankle, she’s moving like normal.
In the Fever’s most encouraging game yet, Caitlin Clark was finally able to give the people what they wanted: a transition 3-pointer from the logo.
It would’ve been a sweeter moment with a win, Clark said, but it was a sign of things to come.
Postgame, Clark gave some insight to what Auriemma said – "To take the time to wave me down and talk to me obviously meant a lot to me, and I'm very thankful for that."

Asked who inspires them during women's history month, both Holmes and Parrish said it was coach Moren, and they all started tearing up.
Moren added, wiping her tears, "I thought we weren't going to do this."

NEWS: The Indiana Fever will have 36 of its 40 games on the WNBA’s national broadcast and streaming partners, including eight times across ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2.
Other games will be on ION, NBA TV, Prime Video, and the CBS Sports/Television Network.
Indiana is one of two teams, including Minnesota, to charter for the start of the season, per
@ClassicJpow
.
In contrast, the New York Liberty will be flying commercial for their first two games, including to Indianapolis.
Caitlin Clark is drawing focus for opposing defenses and spacing the floor.
That, NaLyssa Smith said, has helped her become a consistent scorer in these two preseason games.
🔗:
Caitlin Clark struggled at points of her WNBA debut, but there were also points where she shined. As a rookie going up against a team as physical as the Connecticut Sun in the opener, that’s typical.
She just needs time to learn and adjust.
An Indiana spokesperson said IU is still planning to leave at 2:30 p.m. today, but they're monitoring the weather in Iowa.
"We cannot control the weather and what it's going to do," Teri Moren said. "... But what we will not do is get in any aircraft if it's unsafe."

Iowa women’s basketball jumped up four spots from No. 12 to No. 8 in the AP Top 25 Poll after winning the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday.
The Hawkeyes went from top-10 at the beginning of the season to outside of the poll and back into the top-10 now. It’s been a wild ride
As someone who went through graduation at Carver-Hawkeye (a year ago today!), I can confirm it gets unnecessarily hot in there, especially in the early afternoon.
They should get some graduation fans or something
Caitlin Clark (joking) on missing her UIowa graduation: “Eh, honestly, I was kinda glad to not have to go—Carver-Hawkeye Arena doesn’t have any air conditioning, so it gets like really hot with all those people in there in the spring and summer.”

Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta confirmed today that he’s the emergency backup quarterback if both Joe Labas and Carson May get hurt on Saturday.
He took some snaps at practice today:
Caitlin Clark's first nine games at Iowa weren't televised. Now, she's appearing on SNL and drawing fame-level comparisons to Taylor Swift.

The Indiana Fever’s days flying commercially are numbered, assuming this charter flight plan goes through.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said Tuesday the league is moving toward full-season charter flights this year.
🔗:
As one of the first teams to fly charter in the WNBA’s new program, the Fever had rave reviews.
But, Caitlin Clark said, “It’ll be great once everybody across the league has it. The faster that happens, the product on the floor is going to be better.”
ICYMI: Unprecedented demand for Fever games is propelling opposing teams to put their games in larger venues.
The Las Vegas Aces and Washington Mystics have both announced so far that their home games against Indiana will move to bigger arenas.
HUGE news for the Indiana Fever, who hold the No. 1 pick in the draft this year.
Caitlin Clark is officially leaving Iowa after this season, declaring for the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Team spokesperson says IU has gotten to its hotel in Coralville safely.
Iowa-IU is officially on for tonight. 8 p.m on FOX, with Gus Johnson on the call.
The IU women’s basketball team left on-time (early, even) to Cedar Rapids this morning.
They’ll make it with time to spare, assuming they can get from the airport to Iowa City alright.
The premiere of Full Court Press, a docuseries featuring Caitlin Clark, Kamilla Cardoso, and Kiki Rice, is tonight in Indianapolis.
Clark talked about working on the series, and what people should expect from it:
Katie Lou Samuelson missed the entire 2023 season to have her daughter, Aliya, in August.
Now, eight months later, she’s back in WNBA-playing shape and celebrating her first Mother’s Day.
‘It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.’
NEWS: The Indiana Fever will be broadcasting their games locally in Indianapolis over NBC affiliate WTHR and MeTV affiliate WALV.
Seventeen games will be broadcast across the two networks.

The last thing Sydney Parrish wanted was for IU’s seniors to leave the program without a fight.
So, she became the catalyst for a ferocious second-half comeback that got IU within two points.

Although she fell to the ground in pain at the time, Caitlin Clark ended up unfazed by the ankle injury she suffered Monday night.
“Every basketball player has an ankle injury. If you don’t, you’re not a true baller. It’ll be stiff, but I’ll be good.”
Kelsey Mitchell worked mostly on offense today in her first day back playing — she’s hoping to add in defense tomorrow and get back to full strength.
How she says she’s doing:
Mackenzie Holmes on breaking the IU scoring record, which she's only 16 points away from: "I wouldn't know about it if it wasn't for you guys, but it's a blessing to be in this position. My main focus is beating Purdue. I want to sweep Purdue for my career."

Caitlin Clark and Victoria Vivians both got a technical foul for jawing around midcourt. I didn't see specifically what happened, but Aliyah Boston pulled Clark away pretty quickly.
This is Clark's third tech of the season and second in two games.
Different sets at the start of shootaround, including:
- Boston, Smith, Samuelson, Clark, Mitchell
- Boston, Smith, Samuelson, Clark, Wheeler
- Boston, Smith, Samuelson, Wheeler, Mitchell
Mitchell seems to be a full go in shootaround today, but we only saw 15 minutes.
But of a change to the shooting drills, emphasizing long 2-pointers first.
Christie Sides has said she wants her team, specifically Caitlin Clark, to get more comfortable in the mid-range.
For the morning crowd:
Some miscues aside, Caitlin Clark showed on Friday night that she can be a game-changer at any level.
How she and coach Christie Sides can continue to adapt and improve:
The Colts have the worst type of turf in the NFL, according to the NFLPA.

Christie Sides remembers once, back when she was an assistant with the Chicago Sky, that a plane was delayed. Then again. Then canceled. They ended up having to sleep in the airport.
Soon, though, players flying commercially will be in the past.

After four years of charters in college, Caitlin Clark will be taking commercial flights to away games with the Fever.
With her fame and the growth of the league, though, the Fever will have more security than ever accompanying the team.

Sydney Parrish will suit up for one more year in an IU uniform.
The HSE grad said Saturday that she’s taking advantage of her extra year of eligibility to play for the Hoosiers again in 2024-25.

:
Along with a sold-out crowd, Indiana Fever assistant GM Hillary Spears and some other members of the franchise made the one-hour trek to West Lafayette tonight.
This is the second time (that I know of) that the Fever have come to see Caitlin Clark play.
Big, big news for the WNBA, albeit weird timing with preseason games already going on and less than a week before the season starts.
Either way, charters are crucial for both security and rest for players.
WNBA is on the precipice of announcing charter travel for games “as soon as we can get the planes in place,” commissioner Cathy Englebert tells sports editors at league meeting.
Caitlin Clark just mentioned she graduates on May 14, the same day the Fever open the season at Connecticut.
"I'm glad I don't have to do school anymore," she said to a round of laughs.
Full quote: “The Indiana Hoosiers didn't love me too much in my career, but hopefully we can turn a lot of them into Fever fans if they're not already."
I missed the last part at first!
Close games were the bane of the Fever’s season last year, as they went 10-16 in those ‘clutch games.’
They fell victim to it again tonight, but it was the most complete game of Indiana’s season so far.
Observations:
After two games coming off the bench, Kelsey Mitchell has rejoined the starting lineup.
Starters:
Caitlin Clark
Kelsey Mitchell
Katie Lou Samuelson
NaLyssa Smith
Aliyah Boston
Kelsey Mitchell playing both sides of the ball today in practice.
Not sure what this means for her availability for opening night on Tuesday, but it’s a good sign
Cherelle Griner, Brittney Griner’s wife, is at tonight’s game. Brittney has been detained in Russia for 130 days, and it was announced today that her detention will be extended for another six months.
