I was explaining to someone that even ppl with means are producing kids that have this problem. Having means does not exempt the fate of the middle-class. There are great gulfs fixed between what was and what is. GL look out there hire tutors&get in touch with ppl that can help
I have heard anecdotally that students "can't write anymore" but this essay from this Oklahoma student is really driving home how bad it is out there. It reads like a C+ middle school book report.

Tbh… I’m now thinking about this in the context of the literacy crisis. When we get on here and say the kids cannot read, think, and articulate a point, babygirl turned herself over as an exemplar of exactly what we mean. I question OU admissions, the high school, & prior profs.
