The abbey arch is all that remains of Reading's abbey mill. Today it is hidden away and dominated by steel, glass and imposing buildings but provides a welcome visual break from its modern surroundings.

Good morning from the #WelshMarches. Autumn leaves with a carpet of cyclamen. The witch hazels have never been so magnificent.

Lady of Alne, St Mary's, Alne #Yorkshire. The Lady Chapel was added in the 14thC most likely at the bequest of this lady, a member of the Elleker family from nearby Youlton Hall. The broken #angels at her head wait to catch her soul in a veil #MedievalMonday

According to RSC lore, "MacBeth" was cursed from the beginning. A coven of witches objected to Shakespeare using real incantations, so they put a curse on the play. The first performance c. 1606 was riddled with disaster. #ShakespeareSunday #FolkloreSunday art: Daniel Gardner

A visit today to Chaucer's granddaughter, Alice, Duchess of Suffolk, where she rests in her majestic 15th-century church at Ewelme. A beautiful place at all times, but especially in misty October sunlight, and decked for harvest festival.
