A special day at the Minster as we welcomed Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort for the unveiling and blessing of the cathedral’s new statue of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and to meet members of the public who do outstanding work in their communities.
We're so excited to be welcoming Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort to York Minster again!
The cathedral will be hosting the first Royal Maundy service in the reign of His Majesty King Charles III.
Find out more about the service on 6 April:

this evening.
We pray for everyone’s safety and our thoughts are with all in the city of Paris 🇫🇷
We are honoured to have celebrated the Royal Maundy in the cathedral today, a tradition that dates back hundreds of years and originated in Yorkshire.
A glorious day at York Minster!

His Majesty King Charles III had the chance to meet stonemason Richard Bossons, the designer and carver, before unveiling the statue of the late Queen, which was then blessed by the Archbishop of York.

Did you hear? We've been voted England's most beautiful building!
We'd love to say we're surprised, but we're not!
Find out more about the competition, which was run by Angi, on their website:
"The tallest mallard duck to have ever lived (since records began) known as 'Long Boi.' He lives on the campus of the University of York, England. He stands just over 1m tall (3.5ft)."
It’s not easy manoeuvring and putting up a 26ft tall tree, but after the 3rd attempt our fantastic works team did it! Now we just need to decorate them... 🎄
*This video is sped up - it took the team over twice as long!

Grateful for the outpouring of love shown towards all cathedrals across the world since yesterday evening.
Please keep the people of Paris and those in the emergency sevices - all impacted by the

fire - in your thoughts and prayers ❤️
Today marks 39 years since the roof of the South Transept suffered almost total devastation in 1984 when a lightning bolt struck sparking a fire. Our historic Rose Window cracked into 40,000 fragments due to the heat.
Do you remember the fire? Let us know in the comments 👇
Welcome to York Minster

All at York Minster are sad to share the news of the peaceful death of our beloved Organist Emeritus, Dr Francis Jackson CBE, on 10th January 2022.
Our love and prayers are with Alice, Edward and William and the family at this time.
Eleven years ago today we welcomed Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for the Royal Maundy in the year of her Diamond Jubilee.
Tomorrow we have the honour of welcoming His Majesty King Charles III with the Queen Consort for the first Royal Maundy of his reign.
After 10 years away -who's excited to see the newly restored Great East Window!?
As shown y'day, the main body of scaffold is down however the East End - inc. the Lady Chapel - will not be in use until later in the year
Here are some close ups of the panels to keep you going...

Gabriella, we clearly stated over the phone that we have received no complaints (directly via tags here, emails, letter or phone calls etc) and that ourselves - York Minster - were not reviewing the statue's status.
This has been quoted correctly in other media outlets.
At around 2.30am on 9th July 1984 the fire alarms of the Minster began to sound.
York Minster was struck by lightning leading to a one of the worst cathedral fires of modern times.
Today we'll look back on images from that day

We're overjoyed at the news that York Minster will receive £269,500 from the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage.
This generous funding award will provide a huge boost to our preparations for reopening for visitors and in our recovery from the financial impact of the pandemic.
Tomorrow, the York Minster Bellringers will ring in the new year as the clock strikes midnight 🔔
The sound of the cathedral’s bells is a York tradition that welcomes the start of the new year in joyous celebration!

Hi
@TheRFL
,
We’ve been discussing it here and we think that it would be unfair on the fans of the current

clubs if you didn’t let them have an away day in York at least once a season.
Kind regards,

Thank you to all who submitted their 3-word stars for our Christmas trees
We don’t know who submitted each message, so we’re just going to take a punt that someone wanted us to post this; so if everyone would like to re-tweet & put all Tinas on high-alert then please do so 🤷♂️ 💍
Is your favourite window the Rose Window?
This piece of stained-glass has been receiving a lot of coverage recently as it was famously cracked into 1,000s of pieces during the fire of 1984.
Now fully restored and remains a must-see during your visit
