Love a perfect inperfect system. Pilot says flight is delayed for because it failed critical maintenance, we get off. Notification comes in that official reason is “weather”, but it’s 25 and sunny. Maybe so they don’t have to pay? We need an airline version of @patio11.

When your sharded database does ~50M QPS and you are “others”.
How do huge orgs like Uber, Slack, Cash App, and others scale their databases?. Sharding!. I'm working on an interactive article for @PlanetScale covering what sharding is and considerations for designing a well-performing database cluster. Stay tuned.

DSQL is really cool. Maybe if you need the scaling and have to pay for a distributed database (which is much more expensive), you shouldn’t be doing most of these anti patterns 🤷♂️.
"Postgres compatible" . - No views/triggers/sequences. - No foreign key constraints. - No extensions. - No NOTIFY ("ERROR: Function pg_notify not supported"). - No nested transactions. - No JSONB. What, what IS it compatible with?

~20M peak last BFCM to ~45M peak. Incredible. And to think I just presented the 20M numbers 🤥.
🐬 Shopify's world-class database fleet, powered by MySQL 8, processed an incredible 45 million queries per second and more than 1.4 billion row operations per second at peak. That’s commerce at a truly planetary scale 🌐.

The first with @morgallant and @kirshatrov as speakers is shaping up well. Excited for tonight! . We got near 80 sign ups and our space wasn’t big enough, hopefully fix that up next time. Awesome to see the interest though 🏔️.
