On reflection:
I felt for a long time a total disconnect from the England football team & the culture around it.
Things have changed for me with this young, refreshing, diverse, socially aware squad.
For me, the trophy went to Rome, but (England) football HAS come home.

Never wanted to leave Palace, respected as much for how he conducted himself on his return to Selhurst Park as for what he did while with us. A really nice man, and a privilege for me to buy him a pint and have a chat.

Of course it's very important to draw the 'practising / non-practising' distinction. The Nazis checked this carefully at the gates of the death camps, and the 'non-practising Jews' were given tickets back home.
Don't know about you, but I would certainly fly 3000 miles for the sole purpose of seeing somebody I saw not very often and telling them I couldn't be their friend any more. I'm sure we all would, if we had any moral fibre.

And Wiltshire went on the media 'next for lockdown' list as there had been a 300% increase in cases. From 1 to 4.
Wiltshire Council ended up releasing a statement to stem the panic. I spent chunks of yesterday talking people down.
Stupidity and irresponsibility.

win at West Ham. The wonderful salute to the fans after a 5th successive win under Pulis sealing a great escape after what seemed certain relegation after the first 10 games. An iconic shot, and what it looked like from where I was. A great day.
I'm 61. My work has shown me much death & misery. I've lost most close relatives upwards & sideways. I've had major medical problems & had big cancer scare but I'm fine now. Why the feck does

It's ridiculous, madness!
1 new lab-confirmed

Yes, keep doing the right things, but try to avoid the hype and the scaremongering, everybody. And media, I am very much looking at you here.
Residents in Bristol warned to act now to prevent a local coronavirus lockdown
Residents were told they should limit contact with people outside their household, work from home if possible, and wear face coverings in shops and on public transport

Incomplete, to be edited later, as some of the figures are, like yesterday's v v late in coming out. All very frustrating.
Main headline = don't panic, whatever the media peeps tell you.
Another job sorted out today that has been on the list for a while. Fixed my old Selhurst Park seat to the concrete so I can actually sit on it now. Maybe take my tablet out there when the football resumes...
#cpfc
Hear hear. Some of the media reporting throughout the
#COVID19
crisis has been irresponsible scaremongering. And believe me, I am no pro-Government lapdog.
The more I think about it, the angrier I am about reports of 18 councils yet to hit death peaks.
People are understandably worried about the situation, but many of these areas are reporting virtually no deaths or cases.
This is highly irresponsible reporting.
Great to see a mainstream article saying some of the stuff that a few of us here in Twitterland, not least
@cricketwyvern
, have been saying for a while.
#COVID19
This is utterly ridiculous. We have things planned very carefully at
#surreycricket
. So people can't sit distanced in the open at the Oval but they can crowd into pubs and watch the Cup Final????
Ridiculous.
What HAS he got against cricket?
Prime minister Boris Johnson has confirmed the spectator pilot schemes at The Oval and Edgbaston this weekend have been cancelled after a rise in the number of coronavirus cases in England.
I think that's the right & sensible thing to do & in fact when I get my daily post out later (if the cases ever appear), I'm running without David's as I have so many other ones. But let me record my gratitude to David for all his hard work & for being a beacon of truth & sanity.
Given the progress made (& unless things take a turn for the worse), I am going to discontinue the daily national/regional deaths updates from Monday.
I will update the table/graphs occasionally as & when time permits & aim to continue with other posts on new cases etc.
Let's take a moment to forget media doom-pleasure re possible 3rd waves in Europe, new 'mutants', & about the vaccine supply problems on the way. Let's celebrate instead over 26 m. Brits having had 1st jab, & of a record day y'day of 660.8k jabs. Let's hold hope in our hearts.
Dear Brighton people.
I hope you're bloody grateful.
I also hope you really hated supporting us today.
Now next season we'll try to actually turn up and get the six points against you.

No racism here, just statement of facts. At least the investigation gives the banner more publicity. But our corrupt system will probably force prosecutions - don't want to upset those lucrative Saudi arms deals, do we?

Today, pretty good news, as new cases & 111 triage numbers are down. New UK R number out today, same as the old one. Some changes to growth rate range.
Extraordinary finish at the Oval in a game that had looked dead and buried. 5000 enthralled people, many of whom were saying "that was great, when is the next weekend that Surrey are playing at home?"

Madness.

It's the shortest day of the year weather is miserable, Christmas is going to be the danpest of squibs, people I know are in hospital with Covid (you see, it's not a hoax), No Deal Brexit is coming, and I feel as flat as a witch's tit. Things can only get better. Can't they????
Nice piece by Matthew Syed about Roy Hodgson's old-fashioned virtues (I'm saving you the bother of registering to get past the paywall). An old-fashioned innocence in Syed's first line also - there is a different interpretation possible...

The anniversary of Dad's death in 1997. Years ago I decided I would commemorate his birthday rather than his death day, but always good to remember what a wonderful dad & mate he was. It's because of him I'm a Palace fan. Honestly, after all these years, I've forgiven him now 😁

How good was that? Wonderful. 9th in the Premier League & in the FA Cup Semi-final. A largely young, exciting team playing great football. These are heady times to be a Palace fan. 52 years a season-ticket holder & I have rarely, if ever, been so excited.
