I was honored to be featured in the latest ASA Children and Youth Section Newsletter! Thanks to Ann Beutel for the great questions. Happy to have the chance to discuss my dissertation and share some advice on doing fieldwork in schools as a grad student!
Hot off the press! ASA Children and Youth's Winter 2019 Newsletter features upcoming ASA 2020 Children and Youth Sessions, members announcements and new publications, and interviews with Barbara Risman and PhD candidates Nora Gross and Brooke Dinsmore. https://t.co/6nLg8JT0GD

I've worked with AAT in the past - I chose them based on their business model but their transcriptions are also the highest quality ones I've received! I recommend them highly to my fellow qualitative researchers
Our priority is to provide well-paid, flexible, remote work for our team of disabled/chronically ill/neurodivergent freelancers. Many of our clients book us due to this, and we love to hear when clients choose us due to our business model. Email for more info -- email in bio!

Presenting on your dissertation in the same room where you gave your first research talk as an undergrad = a true full circle moment! So grateful for this opportunity to return to @ConnCollege, see with my undergraduate mentors and meet current students! 1/2

Great find! And even without naming surveillance society, it creeps in - e.g. the mother using Schoology to manage her daughter's grades and the various forms of surveilling social media...
This was the main point in our SocForum piece @btdinsmore ( https://t.co/Japf5IdS1P). Missing: surveillance society "By many markers, kids are doing fantastic & thriving. But these important trends in anxiety, depression & suicide stop us in our tracks.”

I can tell ASA submissions are due today because I've reached the point where I have so many tabs open Chrome is giving me a sad faced error message. Does anyone else require 20 tabs of memos, outlines and open articles to write an extended abstract? It can't be only me, Chrome!

I was honored to take in this event! Tune in for a lively panel about qualitative methods during COVID19, including a great discussion about how sociology's viewpoint on virtual methods might change post-pandemic. I found my co-panelists' presentations both helpful and inspiring!

in youth mental health. Drawing on the excellent research in this area (especially @zephoria's early work!), we argue "how and why youth use social media and digital technology—and the consequences—is ultimately entangled in the broader story of intensification 3/4

To highlight one of my favorite aspects, in this article we take social media and digital tech seriously as a site of intensification and surveillance. We also argue against the popular claim that social media use is responsible for (increasingly steep) declines 2/4

So excited to have this article out in the world! Soc of childhood was one of the main areas of research that made me interested in becoming a sociologist and this paper draws deeply on that perspective to make sense of our current (and complicated) world. 1/4
It’s up! So excited about this. Scholars say children thrive with more autonomy, but US kids are more surveilled than ever, yet for decades have been doing better vis a vis health/educ/crime/etc. We call this “the paradox of constrained well-being.” 1/8 https://t.co/qvUOa06Txu

@tressiemcphd is talking about the need to be wary of what we allow re: corporations encroaching into our/students’ lives right now. #asa2020
