Stop leaving Texas out of your explanations.

This isn't about "the last slaves to find out" its the day Texas slaves found out. Specifically Galveston.

Telling people what they can and can't say. I promise you, Happy Juneteenth, is ok to say. It's also ok to celebrate.

I'm really over seeing all these think pieces about what Juneteenth is or isn't & they never even mention Texas.

I didn't understand Juneteenth as a kid, but it was celebrated. My summer came (led by a black woman) had a party every year. My grandma celebrated every single year. "Happy Juneteenth" was said every year.

You know what. . . I'm so sorry to Black people from Texas. It was one thing when other Black Americans were learning about and celebrating Juneteenth, having the shared history of our ancestors being enslaved on this land.

"women didnt used to have the right to work" is a white womans narrative. black women were working those fields as slaves along with men. & always been working & providing since. my fam is several gens of women & girls providing for the whole fam alone.

This is Najee. He wanted to throw a block party. This was his first event he facilitated with Paterson Healing Collective. He had the whole block out sweeping and cleaning it up for the kids that came to enjoy our activities later. Last month he was killed by police.
