Our 2020 retrospective. There's a lot to be proud of, even in a year like this. 2020 was our first 'real' year as a company, with 2019 mostly spent consulting with the amazing team at @barnardoslab and building our consultant network. In 2020 itself, we... (1)

Our public dialogue on #genomeediting and farmed animals, run with Basis Social & @bright_harbour. Strong public interest in how GE technologies will be used, who will benefit, implications for animal welfare: https://t.co/YXRKyxhUHO

People see gene editing as a question of so much more than 'safety' or 'scary new tech'. Views were strongly shaped by wider experiences around modern farming systems, environmental sustainability, our duties to animals, planet and each other... Such rich data and worth a read.

Another day, another public engagement piece that shows that UK people are very capable indeed of weighing in on the big issues. Our #publicdialogue on gene editing in farmed animals for @Nuffbioethics, in partnership with the fab group at Basis Social.
It’s not what you do it’s what you do it for — the findings of public dialogue on #genomeediting and farmed animals published today: https://t.co/ug7DELyQak

4.3 million people, including 2.5 million children. The reality of food insecurity in the UK over the last 6 months. Figures higher than those recorded in the first 6 months of the COVID-19 pandemic. And a massive 27% higher than pre-COVID 19. @Food_Foundation

Our guideline on how to investigate and treat #LongCovid has been published after 2 other journals rejected it because we did not consult 'experts' (who are they?) It's written by doctors who have the disease. It doesn't get any more real than this. #medtwitter #MedEd

Colleen Campbell: “The medical and scientific communities have historically treated ME as psychosomatic. Consequently, patients are still routinely exposed to gendered medical gaslighting, their physiological symptoms dismissed by physicians.” #MECFS

COVID Long Haulers and patient advocates for the chronically ill are forcing an unprecedented recognition for these chronic complex diseases.

11. For comparison, c. 260K people are diagnosed with diabetes & 500K with heart disease each year. I worry that we are creating a chronic disease tragedy right now. Please watch this @allthecitizens video about long covid to see what it can be like. https://t.co/Brq31ie3M6

I would commend replacing the term *hard to reach* with *seldom listened to*, though even then, it’s important to also acknowledge that listening must go beyond hearing clients; towards hearing citizens into full democratic expression.

Time for me to go public. My role is being deleted from my team. Because of Long Covid I can only work up to 24 hours a week. If you know of anyone in a senior information governance/ management role seeking a job share please let me know.

I think I get it. Why psychiatrists like Carson & Howard dismiss individual patient stories as 'false narratives', anecdotal. The reason is simple. When you listen to individual broken lives, it's incredibly distressing to hear the pain. I for one wouldn't want to have caused it.
@ProfRobHoward Healthcare hasnt worked out how to deal with narrative stories- undoubtedly bring richness but we dont know what to do with false narratives; whether consciously produced or not

This is really good - lots to think about for any of us doing research, insight-gathering or design with people going through tough times - especially with Covid loading on more problems and mental health services on their knees.
We've been updating our post-session participant care plans with our wonderful partners at @_andgood. Why we decided standard practice was no longer sufficient - what we've changed - and open-source templates you can use and adapt here: https://t.co/u8QxbDcUNB

Too much public health research is focused on changing the behaviour of the powerless, rather than the powerful.

So, for many years the majority of those working flexible and part time have been women and the government has talked about flexi train season tickets but not acted. Now there's loads of men working from home they enact flexi season tickets within weeks. 1/
