🚴 Exclusive: The cost of bringing the Tour de France to Edinburgh has soared again after the Scottish Government finally admitted how much it will be spending on the event. 🚴 Spoiler alert: It’s more than it spends on the city’s annual home-grown events. https://t.co/EjMIf11Bzx

It can't be healthy how much time & resources has been used by publicly-funded organisations battling to overturn or restore funding cuts which should never have been made in the first place. It's been the land of sneaky cuts and undelivered promises. Big change needed.
Scotland has had 25 years of broken arts and culture policy under devolution. We have also had a decade & a half of Creative Scotland: a body which has failed intellectually, organisationally & practically. Surely we can do better than this?

This really is essential reading. These findings are absolutely appalling. The Scottish Government, which is obsessed with micro-management in my experience, has completely taken the eye off the ball on what has been going on in one of its most important agencies.

A film that will forever be in my top five. If you've never seen it, treat yourself over the next couple of weeks.
After Rob Reiner screened Stand by Me (1986) for Stephen King, he noticed that King was visibly shaking and wasn’t speaking. Stephen King left the room, then returned and told Rob Reiner it was the best adaptation of his work he had ever seen. RIP Rob Reiner.

Another spoiler: The Scottish Government is spending around 10 times as much on bringing the Tour de France to Edinburgh as it currently does on the Fringe, which is the biggest cultural event in the world, but is not regarded as a “major event” according to official criteria.

You didn’t merely walk into Rogano; you strutted. Sometimes, if drink had been taken, this would ease to a sashay.

“We’re sure that without the outpouring of support – both financial & through emotional stories of connection and importance – from the community that surrounds us & in our sector, that we would not be in this position. We owe a huge debt of thanks to all those who got involved.”
