Yup. I can tell when people used AI. Who knew 3 years since GPT-3 I’m telling my kids to use your own brain 🧠 constantly & use AI selectively/mindfully. In 10 years the cognitive differences will be obvious between those rely on AI and those think independently/critically.

The most profound AI alignment strategy would just be to be more aligned ourselves; to create beautiful, positive, peaceful, optimistic works; to foster harmony in our own lives and in our writing; to be all the things we would want the AI to be.

Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we
It's also important to understand that the tariff rates that foreign countries are supposedly charging us are just made-up numbers. South Korea, with which we have a trade agreement, is not charging a 50% tariff on U.S. exports. Nor is the EU charging a 39% tariff.

Donald Trump promised to let Elon Musk self-police his conflicts of interest. The result? Those investigating his companies have been fired. Cases against his companies have been dismissed. The corrupt self-dealing is staggering.

CIPSEA (reauthorized under Trump in 2018!) provides that if you let the wrong person see confidential data, you can go to prison for 5 years and be fined $250,000. https://t.co/Iv6qvBo4Xf It's no wonder that top professionals resign. Trump may have to give preemptive pardons.
BREAKING: The acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration has exited after a clash with Elon Musk's DOGE over sensitive data, multiple sources tell The Washington Post Same story really across federal agencies https://t.co/CQlqJCPWCD

when a lie is forced on loop, it’s not about conversion—it’s about wrecking your trust in anything. they don’t want you to buy the falsehood; they want you to forget what truth even feels like. the soviet trick wasn’t to implant a lie, but to leave your mind in a perpetual

The first person I want to highlight for #BlackHistoryMonth is Ronald McNair — a Lake City, SC native and the second African American in space. McNair was aboard the Challenger space shuttle when it exploded in 1986. He always credited his SC roots and HBCU education for his

Musk's claim that just 10% of US aid reaches recipients is absurd. @cgdev lays out the facts: - US gov costs are just 10% - Rest reaches recipients mostly thru US corps/nonprofits + multilateral agencies - ~10% goes thru foreign organizations https://t.co/j0hFoX3r87

This re @Wikipedia
@polynoamial @OpenAI The risk is real, but many forget that @Wikipedia deterioration will make LLMs get worse, too. It should be in their best interest to support Wikipedia editing. Without Wikipedia, LLMs will degrade, too - remember that about 15% of their input is based on @Wikimedia projects.

1/Eight years ago this week I had a vision of what is happening now, and it chilled me to my core. I was traveling to Latvia to speak at an event. I reached out to the office of the late Rep. Elijah Cummings with my concern. He called me while I was on the tarmac in Riga.

Cory's got a new book coming out and if it's half as good as his other recent greats it's worth twice the value of your time and treasure. He has a gift for envisioning potential near futures, and most importantly the responsibility+agency we (and our kids) have in shaping it.
*Picks and Shovels* is a new, standalone technothriller starring Marty Hench, my two-fisted, hard-fighting, tech-scam-busting forensic accountant. You can pre-order it on my latest Kickstarter, which features a brilliant audiobook read by Wil Wheaton: https://t.co/i2rWuyouNs 1/

great article about how “human in the loop” oversight over AI decisioning is far from a silver bullet. it’s always struck me as laughable the AI salesmen who make statements like “no-one need ever learn coding again thanks to AI” it’s literally the dumbest thing you can say
AI's ability to make and assist important decisions is fraught: on one hand, AI *often* classifies things very well, at speed and scale outstripping any reasonably resourced group of humans. On the other, AI is sometimes *very* wrong, in ways that can be terribly harmful. 1/
