In this week's story we meet some residents of Merit Place, #Kamloops' lowest-barrier shelter. Those we talked to share how Merit has impacted their lives. “There is help out there, you just have to reach out,” says one resident of the shelter. https://t.co/oRUfFjjrFG

From the filings. Black Press's projected weekly cash flow statement through to March 2024 + company appears to owe $61M and have just $3M in bank. BP is by far the largest employer of local news reporters in BC.

Black Press has announced restructuring, creditor protection and a potential sale, which will almost certainly result in the further erosion of local journalism. There's no word on the impact on specific papers. #Kamloops

This feels even more relevant today in light of the KTW closure. Most publishers did not ask for this bill, but are dealing with the fallout anyway. We all need to work together to deal with the situation now in front of us.

Recently, we submitted a response to the draft regulations for the Online News Act. But any tweaks to regulations need to be made in the context of tech platforms potentially permanently blocking news. Our open letter to Heritage Min @PascaleStOnge_ https://t.co/TJa3K5qZKo

In announcing the closure of @KamThisWeek, the newspaper notes that the fallout from C-18 and Meta's response has cut website traffic in half. Good job folks.

Tsútswecw Provincial Park in the #Shuswap is still closed to visitors. With salmon arriving some people have been ignoring the closed gate and walking in to the park. The Adams River Salmon Society says the Bush Creek fire did too much damage for the park to be safe to visit

Hoping to share stories from community members in syilx and Secwépemc homelands who've been impacted by devastating wildfires. This is a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach to storytelling, one that highlights empowerment & resilience over sensationalism
