A 20-year-old hiker reported missing in #BC's backwoods more than 5 weeks ago has been found alive. Sam Benastick failed to return to #Kamloops in mid-October from what was supposed to be a 10-day camping trip. More details coming Wednesday. https://t.co/5uWNgTbD0r

Wildfires are now a regular part of life in Canada — but it's rare for journalists to get access to the frontlines https://t.co/R7YyOX2Vdw

This was such a fun piece to work on! Your favourite colour-changing yarn is also a responsible, successful business ✨

Whitewater venues are super expensive to build, so it makes sense to use an already-existing, world-class artificial course to host the sport for the Olympics. It's just super far away... like in a different time zone far away.

So canoe slalom and softball won't actually be held in LA... those sports will be hosted 2,100 km away in Oklahoma City. I get using existing facilities, but this is quite a distance away for an LA-hosted Games.

Appreciate this piece from Rhiannon. I was another one of those 'southern reporters' who came up to work at the Star. It was my first real journalism job and I was the sports editor, in charge of coverage for the whole territory. A wild ride & I'm grateful for the experience.
Back from an Alaska road trip and my first contributing-writer piece for @thewalrus published while I was away. I wrote about the closure of @WhitehorseStar, my time there as a reporter, and the importance of local news. https://t.co/Or4bD3xA3e

Do you know how hard it is to get your work placed in a national park gift shop? I didn't until I talked to Kelsey Voss, she's a Port Moody artist whose artwork will be seen by millions of park goers this summer.

Not the news I expected to see from the Whitehorse Star today... My first non-intern newspaper gig was here. I had the best time being the sports editor and got to cover some special events. As always, it's disappointing (and gutting) to see another newspaper go.

For @TheWrenNews I wrote about Jess Santos. They're a creative artist who has created an oasis for the wacky and weird on Kamloops' North Shore. Santos is the mind behind Misfit Night Market and Haus of Misfit.

Finally, for @TheWrenNews, I wrote and photographed a story about the decommissioning of Kamloops' Noble Creek Irrigation System and how that is affecting the farmers who rely on it for water.

Next was a piece from earlier in the year that made its way online this week: For @paddlingmag I wrote about how Class V paddling events are navigating the challenges they face.

Whitewater paddlers were shocked when this year’s North Fork Championship was canceled, but will other class V events face the same demise?
