Postdoc at Stowers Institute for Medical Research investigating the relationship between microbes, mucus, the enteric nervous system, and immune responses
Joined June 2023
Millions of villi work to sense their local environment and indirectly talk to the brain. Two-way communication is done via the enteric nervous system — a vast network of neurons and glia that regulate, motility, fluid exchange, and tell your brain what’s for breakfast. Pics mine

NEW insights into the sense of smell. @YuLab19 research published in @eLife reveals vast range of cell types in a part of the nose that gives some animals scent-detecting “superpowers” w/ potential to expand understanding of sensory processing in humans.

The discovery helps provide a greater understanding of the breadth of cell types governing the sense of smell.

This #MicroscopyMonday is the mouse intestine. Specifically villi, which serve to increase surface area for nutrient absorption. Within each villus, there are nerves & glia (shown in red & green) that send sensory information back to the #brain. 🧠 @braingutaxis (@YuLab19)
