Two things we got wrong are abundantly clear. Transmission occurs through aerosols and kids are primary vectors. It’s never been more obvious what’s needed. Kids are not vaccinated- their schools need to control aerosols come fall.

@bradwouters Dr Wouters I was asked to remove my respirator and replace with a poorly fitting surgical mask on entry to PMH 2 weeks ago for cancer screening. I argued and was allowed to place the surgical mask overtop but I know other patients would just do as they’re told. Can this be fixed?

@LadyScorcher The policy at UHN and I think most hospitals is to require an approved/validated mask that is provided. However, my understanding is that you can wear this over your own respirator/N95. The hospital has no way to validate private masks so they ask for the approved one.

@bradwouters @MacLeodLisa as Nepean MPP, you must stand up to @Sflecce and ensure that he acts to protect Ontario elementary school children from aerosols by September.

@bradwouters I’m confused. Are we not planning to vaccinate children? Why would we not do that?

@bradwouters They’ll gladly let covid tear through schools this fall. With adults vaccinated, the threat to hospitals and therefore business restrictions is gone. That’s all they ever cared about.

@bradwouters Thank you. It is very concerning that there is still no public plan for how Ontario kids will return to school safely in the fall. We are running out of time and our kids cannot afford a third year of uncertainty and flip flopping between virtual and in-person learning. #onted

@bradwouters Why do you refer to children using the de-humanizing characterization of vectors? Children have suffered enormously from the lockdowns. Could some medical people weigh in on this description -and whether it is even valid? @DrJ56013122 @drsandypants

@bradwouters @etfopresident Schools are not super-spreaders and kids aren’t vectors of disease. This has been reinforced again and again in data. Covid case rates in schools generally moved with community rates, which is what would be expected if there wasn’t much virus transmission in schools.

@bradwouters @grayal58 Kids don’t need to be vaccinated. Their parents have a choice to be and their grandparents definitely should be. Their teachers should be. What are you trying to accomplish?

@bradwouters @ccleighton Sounds easier said than done. 18 months in - we have masking, distancing with limitations (in schools) and not much else being communicated by the government!

@bradwouters Kids are not vectors. This has been shown in multiple studies around the world. The fact is, kids catch it in the home. Lots of homes have single parents and multiple children, which would account for the higher rate in children. This is not proof they are vectors.

@bradwouters Yes, thank you for stating it in such direct terms. I really hope @Sflecce has a plan to make this happen, and is working hard on it this summer.

@bradwouters Transmission occurs in aerosols only in Ontario. In BC, along with pretty much everywhere else in the world, kids go to school.

@bradwouters @_scottreid Looks clear that children can get Covid-19 and be seropositive, despite the lack of symptoms. But I don't recall seeing data conclusively showing that they're a major driver of transmission - either to adults or to other children. Is there any new data showing otherwise?

@bradwouters @DGBassani I had nightmares during the last lockdown. Elementary school I work in (under 12yrs old) so many classes, students, teachers infected. Even after "outbreak" declared more students/classes. Crank open windows, crowded classes, and poor ventilation still not upgraded. Negligence!
