There is NO store like it in the world. L&M has helped Canadian musicians every bit as much any grant system. As a private business, they’ve put getting musicians on the road to performance and creativity seemingly ahead of profit interests. I know this ethos was installed and
We're sorry to share the sad news that Jack Long, our father and company founder, passed away last night at the age of 95. Jack lived a long and happy life, surrounded by music and family until the very end. We are proud of the legacy he leaves and will miss him every day.

The @OIC_CI_Canada did a systematic review of the RCMP and ATIP in 2020 and they committed to all kinds of reform. The number of illegally delayed requests at last check-in in Nov had nearly doubled since then, per RCMP annual report https://t.co/P1BrJSiskJ

TLDR; today Privacy Commissioner @PrivacyPrivee found @CharlieAngusNDP complaints on RCMP internet surveillance tools (based on my @TheTyee reporting) “well-founded” for a myriad of reasons … and “unresolved” as RCMP already committed to NOT fixing it https://t.co/O7EOg15eJl

Reminder: this woman is a landlord who uses homes as a financial asset to make money off tenants.
Homes are for Canadians to live in and should not be used as a financial asset class by foreigners. We are using all possible tools to make housing more affordable across the country—including by extending the ban on foreign ownership of housing in Canada.

Yet another Canadian community newspaper chain is going to court under our bankruptcy laws, but again it has nothing to do with it going out of business. As Marc Edge details, this time, it is more a...

I'm kickstarting the audiobook for *The Bezzle*, sequel to 2023's *Red Team Blues*, featuring Marty Hench, a hard-charging, two-fisted forensic accountant with 40 years in Silicon Valley, busting every scam hatched by tech bros' feverish imagination: https://t.co/J980OtUJGy 1/

Doctorow’s novel imagines a non-bleak planetary future & works backwards to recent non-fiction decisions And as is rarely the case w/ audiobooks (& increasingly every mass produced internet-obtainable thing), you can have someone read it to you w/o giving a penny to Jeff Bezos:
My next book is *The Lost Cause*. It's a climate emergency book. @LibraryJournal called it "a message hope in a near-future that looks increasingly bleak." As with all my books @Amazon refuses to sell the audiobook, so I'm selling it on @Kickstarter: https://t.co/NtQYBuOApX 1/

I emailed Torstar owner Jordan Bitove three times this summer asking if he would sell any community papers to community members in order to keep them in print. No response. Now he's cut the print editions of ~70 local papers saying they'll continue online.

The rich and powerful know that it's harmful to keep getting reinfected with COVID over and over. So they keep up to date with vaccines, wear masks, clean indoor air etc. But they don't tell anyone else to do it because they profit from creating the illusion that COVID is over.

The scale of wealth creation from this corruption is so unimaginably large that’s it’s hard to think of strong enough disincentive, but Ontario better get to work doing so anyways if it wants to have a province #onpoli

My Original draft pitched this to be part of a series called: “The Internet was a great experiment but it’s time to shut it down” but @TheTyee didn’t want to go for that for some reason. Reverting back to RSS: small steps https://t.co/olJZPw9Yi2

RSS is a universal, open, algorithm-free news feed you can have for free. Silicon Valley giants treat it like a secret.

The information Commissioner continues to calmly state that the system is completely broken & it’s clear nobody’s going to do anything about it. Despite multiple committees/reviews laying out what has to happen to have an actual democracy: the ability to know what gov is doing

As I argued in Enlightenment Now, progress is not a matter of "optimism" but a real, quantifiable phenomenon. The Social Progress Index Time Series: 1990-2020 indicates improvement from 52 to https://t.co/DHLj3uDkoX via @tableaupublic

Thank you to @morricemike for asking Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau directly if he will support his own party's call for an electoral reform citizens' assembly. It's never too late to keep a promise!

That confidentiality requirement exists so people can make requests without fear of reprisal. It’s obviously weird for me to report on my own privacy issue but I think it’s important to show how these things are working behind closed doors. https://t.co/fnCL09kJcA
