So, if N fertilizer increases soil organic matter in the long-term, does it have a similar effect on microbial biomass? This review says YES, N fertilizer application "led to a 15.1% increase in the microbial biomass above unfertilized controls." https://t.co/oz9mzdFnjK
Does synthetic nitrogen fertilizer burn up soil organic matter? Multiple studies say NO. N fertilizer actually slows loss of old soil organic matter and increases microbial biomass and new soil organic matter. New from @jwadeexperience and I:

Cultural burning is better for Australian soils than prescribed burning, or no burning at all https://t.co/wFyA53swAc via @ConversationEDU

What does fire management do to soils? We compared prescribed burning to cultural burning and looked at how soil properties changed after fire. Cultural burning was better.

So very sorry to see #TheDrum @ABCthedrum gone finish. The end of an era and one of the best. Very much looking forward to the day the ABC say “it’s back!”

This modern-day Silent Spring addresses climate change head on, arguing that the solution to this global crisis lies in sustainable, biologically diverse farms In Soil Not Oil, Vandana...
On #WorldFoodDay, we are reminded that we need more farmers, not less. More farmers who care for the soil, more farmers to plant biodiversity, take care of seed, and provide more food all while healing our body and the Earth @drvandanashiva

There’s no civilisation without agriculture. Why would we risk our food bowls for short-term profit from coal seam gas? Farmers are sounding the alarm on the way fossil fuel expansion is damaging our water, food, fibre and climate. https://t.co/Z7kqcPM18o

Conversion to no-till = no change; conversion to switchgrass = no change; only restoration of diverse native prairie resulted in increases in #soilcarbon. It's all about the roots. Would have been nice to measure deeper than 25 cm.

Grasslands have large soil carbon (C) sequestration potential due to permanent vegetation cover and prolific below-ground biomass inputs, making their implementation a negative emission technology (IPCC, 2018). @bdspublishing
