I still think the hypocrisy and the ensuing loss of belief and motivation in democratic principles was a big reason for this result.
This. Biden will lose because of this. Voting in the US is a great ordeal, esp for the elderly and the poor (no cars, weak public transportation, registration is a barrier, etc).

Pet peeve: I cannot begin to tell you how much I hate research questions that begin with “to what extent”. Why do I keep seeing this in student papers? How can one answer that question properly? Classics are the best: how? Why? Under what conditions?.

Getting an ERC rejection sucks especially when we had such a great consortium. But I learnt a lot and my contribution to the methodology section was evaluated as “systematic and thorough”. So here is to small wins.

Ditto. I think this risky move can pay off immensely. Instead of waiting to be pushed to the corner and giving time to Le Pen to milk these election results, Macron bets on the horror and ensuing mobilization of the anti-far right voters.
A few thoughts on why Macron’s decision to call parliamentary elections because the far-right did so well, which seems on the surface of it to be quite insane, might not be *that* insane.
