An illuminating (if not terrifying) presentation! #MusicEducators really need to highlight the research in to the Alevel/GCSE decline with school leaders. Need 2 focus on challenging systemic barriers - just not sure how to do this at school level. #RIme2021 #MusicEd #edutwitter
@DrFautley and @DrAdamWhittaker using some great maths to forecast a terrible future for A-Level Music in the UK @sempreorguk #Rime2021

I've really missed singing, and hearing pupils sing. This summer term is going to be full of song. We're going to catch up in singing.

The entire sector was impacted by lockdowns, some subjects more than others with music one of the areas hardest hit. Rather than cutting back, schools should devote a full fortnight this term to the practical, collaborative skills that could not be developed during lockdown
So pleased this is being highlighted as a risk by @NASUWT ; it’s a growing concern for arts colleagues in many schools where they’re seeing reduced numbers at KS4 and the risk of future A-level cohorts. Music particularly seems to be in a perilous place. @CultureLearning

@daveguinane Gosh: "Our Key Stage 3 students receive two hours of music teaching per week, one hour of core music and one hour of group instrumental tuition." One of the best things in the #modelmusiccurriculum for me is where it disses carousels, so bravo to this school!

@dgillthorpe @DrFautley @sjeeves @jpmanwaring @DrAdamWhittaker Do you think that musical performance and composition might themselves be thought of as academic (they are intellectual, mindful)? Is the bifurcation of academic and non-academic music helpful?

What a mess - and PGCE is such a great way of learning to teach
This issue deserves wider debate: how School Direct distracts from the core purpose of schools. #SchoolDirect
