The Amazon at dawn — a view from orbit. NASA shared a photo of the Amazon taken from the International Space Station during sunrise. The river looks like a thin golden line cutting through the endless green ocean of the tropical forest. Clouds float above the trees, like soft

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked, "If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?" Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

How someone speaks about the recently deceased—especially those they disagreed with—can say a lot about them. Gene Hackman was pure class. Here he is on President Reagan: "I'm a Democrat, but I also loved the idea of that man... A beautiful American." https://t.co/Y14O8oEmUQ

So sad to wake up to the news that music god & genius Quincy Jones has died😢His work on Off the Wall with Michael Jackson was the first album to blow my mind, then Thriller. His catalogue of work is crazy. Love this Mack the Knife clip of him with Sinatra. Rest in power sir🙏🏽☺️

“Fly Me to the Moon” began life as “In Other Words”, in waltz time. Sinatra asked QUINCY JONES for a swing rearrangement - and here's the iconic result (at a benefit in St Louis in ‘65) with Q conducting the Count Basie Orchestra. RIP Q. And thank you. https://t.co/QuS9m2EgLi

Restore the beautiful details in public spaces. For the people who designed these buildings, the flooring was not an after thought, or just a convenience, but part of an aesthetic whole. Stunning original Victorian floor found hidden under 1960s vinyl.

We’re devastated to hear of the death of Dame Maggie Smith, whose career has spanned the theatrical, film and television world without equal. 💔 Her relationship with the National Theatre began in its very first season in 1963, working alongside Laurence Olivier at the Old Vic.

Have just laid down the first holiday read: The New Life by @TomCrewe1 - such a wonderfully enthralling book. I loved it. Find a copy and get stuck in. How far we have come, thank god, and how much we owe to the men and women who fought decade after decade to make it possible.

The attack floored me. Southport, where I grew up, where my little nieces still live; sleepy, gentle and genteel, happy Southport by the sea... I can't fathom how such horror has emerged in a place I know so well; how such brutality has forced its way onto the innocence of those
