What AI Bros will never understand is that the reason we are ultimately drawn to art is because of the "voice" of the artist. A great movie, TV show, etc is only great because of the voices that gave it life - quirks, faults, inconsistencies, and all. Otherwise, it's just hollow.

Counterpoint: we do NOT need to teach students how to use AI in their writing. Tech companies are spending millions in advertising to try to convince you to think that. Teach students to write, and to think, without it.
To the folks blowing this post up with negativity, I get it. I’m on your side. Risks are high. But we’re doing a disservice to students if we don’t teach them how to use AI effectively in their writing. We discuss this in depth in our work with schools:

Listening to Sal Kahn @StanfordHAI and he confirms Khan Academy is building a “process oriented” AI writing tool that will “write with” students from conception to submission and monitor and report on all steps. I know Google is working on tools like this too @AnnaRMills

We should be clear that both the DESIRE for these things and NEED for all these things are at an all-time high. What we have lost, we lost because private equity investors decided these are fields you can’t scale very quickly. But what if they were never meant for that?
So what’s the plan here? No news, journalism, criticism, or human-made art? That’s the utopia?
