The behaviour debate(s) on here feel *particularly* charged/toxic at the moment so thought it’d be a good time to collect my various attempts to bring nuance to the discussion (/pretentious milquetoast ramblings, delete as appropriate) in one place. A 🧵 of 🧵s.

Enjoyed exploring using this excellent playbook by Michael Feely and @benkarlin1 in a school today. Nicely focused action steps ; clear rationale and links between techniques. Interesting to explore a parallel development of same concept as @WALKTHRUs_5

In future series the faithful should be allowed to play a Joe Marler joker where they get big Joe in for a night to find the traitors

High standards schools are going all in on techniques like Turn and Talk, SLANT, STAR, SHAPE and choral response, and I think we need to remember that "engagement is not a proxy for learning" doesn't just apply to posters, group work, wandering the room or whatever. Just

Turn and Talk is very popular right now, I see it in most lessons I go to. HOWEVER, in 95% of cases I watch it and think "that lesson would have been better without it to be honest" Why? 👇

If this is meant to be diagnostic, then the end of year 8 is too late. If this is meant to be summative, then expect a standardised comprehension assessment that will incentivise test rehearsal in interventions at the expense of actually addressing underlying issues. >> >>

@FootballCliches I had lost the captaincy of my under-16 team to Keir Starmer… here’s the proof (Keir back row, 3rd left, me front row, far right).

My “opinion that seems so clearly correct I cannot believe more people don’t share it” is that it is extremely obvious that boxing should be banned.

@Mr_Crome The best playbooks I’ve seen is T&L playbook by @benkarlin1 and #MichaelFeely and another designed by @MissTBegum They have different plays which explicitly break down specific teaching/ leadership techniques and provide examples and non examples of each play.

Tonight was the first football match E (nearly 5) has properly engaged with. I absolutely love that it was a women’s game, a @Lionesses game in particular, and that he’ll grow up knowing the agony, beauty, tension and utter joy of football as something completely universal.

This football regulator nonsense in Parliament sums up so much of what is wrong with our politics. I’ve listened to these gnomes drone on about the game, when quite frankly they know absolutely sod all about it. Nothing. Yet here they are, confidently redesigning the sport like

Jamie Oliver has a massive platform from which to address issues around dyslexia in education and he chose to use it to spread ignorance and snake-oil. He could have amplified genuine experts; instead he chose to present himself as one. He gets no leniency from me I’m afraid.
