Thanks to @just_security for giving me the space to see the bigger picture here on press freedom. As we get sucked into new rabbit holes with breaking news, it gets hard to keep sight of the overall stakes --- which are enormous

For a lawyer to use the terms “voluntary” or “consent” in a context of violence like this, that there was an actual video of, is devastating. Most domestic violence victims encounter the legal system with no such evidence in hand to refute their abuser’s claims of consent.

This is devastating. The quality of work @hrl_yaleSPH has produced is unparalleled & has rightly become an invaluable source in the pursuit of accountability for international crimes. The only winners from this news are perpetrators.
