I spend a lot of time in this lab, I’ve known Abdul for years and he is just the nicest guy. Always hands on building some cool physics instrumentation from scratch. He deserves to be here finishing his Ph.D in a few months.

Conclusion: these labels are for a wafer dual beam. You’d be forgiven for believing they were for a TEM, because XL dual beams inherited a surprising amount of their architecture from the CM series TEMs and many boards are present in both.

There’s a bunch of LLIB (Load Lock Interface Board) labels - this is specifically the wafer handling load lock. The TMA (Tilt Motor Amplifier) is unique to wafer stages. The PVG/8” label also gives away the size of the stage.

Then there’s another set of “FPC/IGSU” labels. That’s because a lot of FEG electronics got reused for ion beam control.

But there’s also an electron source. There’s a GNSU (electron Gun Supply Unit) and a set of FPC (FEG Power Control) labels. The GNSU is the regular thermionic gun supply, but there’s also some FEG electronics here, so maybe it’s a FEG source?.

IGSU (Ion Gun Supply Unit) is a dead giveaway that there are ions involved. ICU (Ion Beam connecting unit) also has a string of labels.

Nobody guessed the right answer so I’m gonna explain how I knew what kind of system this is.
