Rough week in the news. Hopefully triggered chats about: 1. Mental health & making sure people feel open to express how they feel; 2. Casual racism & making sure we don't treat other people differently just based on skin colour; 3. Daily challenge of being a woman & feeling safe.

It’s true that #notallmen harm women. But do all men work to make sure their fellow men do not harm women? Do they interrupt troubling language and behavior in others? Do they have conversations about women’s safety/consent with their sons? Are #allmen interested in our safety?

PSA: oral iron replacement is best given on alternate days as a single dose. Oral iron supplementation increases hepcidin and reduces subsequent iron absorption (for ~24h). Giving BD or TDS oral iron is poorly tolerated AND counterproductive/ineffective. Less IS more.

I would like to share the story of how a patient with cancer came up with the idea for a randomized trial, & how listening to him saved a lot of lives. 1/ In 2002, I had just completed a randomized trial with the notorious drug thalidomide for the cancer, multiple myeloma.
