A great people without a soul is but a vast crowd. (Lamartine) / The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it. (Mencken)

For CS Lewis, story “takes all the things we know & restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity.” But these modern remakes undo that good work, smothering it in the sterile familiarity of woke dogma and burying revelation six feet deep
“Not your grandmother’s Narnia” is rather transparent code for “a butchering of CS Lewis’s artistic vision by a total denuding of all Christian themes in the story, rendering it unrecognizable and incoherent.”

Ralph Schoellhammer on Washington’s recently released security strategy: “Washington is offering Europe a choice, not a guarantee. It will help defend a Europe of sovereign nations confident in their identity and willing to bear the costs of their own defence. It will not
The new security strategy out of the White House is - a long overdue - ultimatum from Washington. My latest for @brusselssignal

Lots of bullish US economic data below from @apolloglobal's Torsten Slok - including that default rates are falling and earnings expectations are being upgraded for the S&P500. The latter in particular doesn't sound too tariff-mageddon-y.

Julian Jessop’s (@julianHjessop) critique of the oft-cited but questionable -8% GDP impact of Brexit on the UK economy. 👇
Here's a chart for anyone still willing to believe that #Brexit has knocked 8% off the UK economy... The lines show what has actually happened to GDP in the UK, France and Germany since the vote to leave. The green unicorn shows where the UK would be if GDP were 8% higher 🤔

Keir Starmer states that “he could sleep at night” with a Conservative government but not a “right wing” government. Funny that he forgets he’s the one that’s cancelling elections, misleading the public on finances, scrapping jury trials… to name a few.

The GRANITE Act would allow X to sue the European Commission in U.S. federal court for three times this amount, and get injunctive relief against the Commission's orders. Congress should enact it ASAP to head off this European censorship attempt.
Rumors swirling that the EU commission will fine X hundreds of millions of dollars for not engaging in censorship. The EU should be supporting free speech not attacking American companies over garbage.

Modern-day privateers: These CCP-subsidised, grey-zone fleets are widely used by the Chinese government for area denial in foreign waters. They look civilian but behave like a navy (often with military-trained crew), which makes responding to them even more difficult. They
A glimpse of China’s fishing militia invading the Philippines’ EEZ. Tens of thousands of such vessels, subsidized by China, operate as proxy enforcers for the Coast Guard and PLANavy. They go around wreaking havoc on sovereignty of other states & marine life alike.

Curious that a large donation to Reform has Labour and the Lib Dems suddenly talking about the need to limit donations. In 2019 David Sainsbury gave £8m to the Lib Dems — £10m plus in today's money. Across 2023-34, he gave Labour £5.5 million. No complaints then.

@baylissbaghdad Great article full of key insights. I think it’s the total dominance of Rawls’ thinking over the political class. The ‘rights-based’ components of state spending remain unquestioned and unchallenged - from hotels for Asylum seekers to Audis on Motability…

I wrote about the irresponsible, retracted Nature paper in the Telegraph https://t.co/zmQj6briCo

If you're skeptical of the idea that the Left has taken an anti-family turn in recent years, just listen in on Aftyn Behn (D-TN).👇🏽 Her (admittedly extreme) comments help explain why family formation is falling much more precipitously among liberal young women:
🚨 Democrat nominee for the upcoming TN07 special election Aftyn Behn condemns women who get married and start families-- saying it's the product of "deeply patriarchal structures": "My therapist always asks me to transcribe my dreams and the recurring dream I've had is standing

Some improving numbers for Kemi Badenoch. Labour and the Lib Dems attempted to paint her in a negative light for “bullying” Rachel Reeves during PMQs. Their efforts failed to gain traction.
The number of Britons seeing Kemi Badenoch as a PM in waiting has increased significantly in the last month Does look like PM in waiting: 21% (+9 from 1-3 Nov) Does not look like PM in waiting: 53% (-10)
