The most interesting thing about this (very well-cut) trailer is that they have combined the mass/hero narrative template with the sports-movie template -- to the extent that the Indhuja character registers more than the heroine.
Looks promising.

Saw the

Dear non-Indian journalists
Not every Indian film is "Bollywood". That's just the industry that makes Hindi-language cinema.
There are many other languages and "woods", if you'd like to explore (and there's a lot of amazing stuff out there, too, I assure you).
Sincerely, etc.

Why do people get offended by the word "masala"? It is our true homegrown genre/style, derived from myths.
Like every type/genre of cinema, there are good and bad masala movies. But when done well, very little can come close to the exhilaration that masala cinema can give.
Cannot believe people who didn't mind films like Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu are now fretting about the "social impact" of

Thoughts on
#SaamySquareTrailerFromToday
1. Why is it so difficult for an actor of Vikram's talents and presence to get decent scripts?
2. Is this a spoof of 'mass' movies (
#TamilPadam3
?), or are they being serious?
3. Does Hari's editor use an Avid or an aruvaamanai?

If you don't like or understand a film, just let it be and move on. There's no need to question the taste and judgement and motives of those who DID like the film.

I don't get it when people say a film is okay "if you go in without much expectations". What does this even mean?
Why would anyone choose to spend two-plus hours WITHOUT expecting something worthwhile in return for that precious time?
"In Avvai Shanmugi, Nasser comes looking for a job in a Brahmin house. When he says his name is Basha, Kamal ad-libs: “His name is (um) Palavakkam (um) Swaminathan. Basha for short.” It’s so absurd, it’s genius"

Sundar Pichai + Sanjay Ramasamy = Sundar Ramasamy, satisfies not only ARM but Jeyamohan (cowriter) too, as SundaraRamaswamy was his mentor. If you shorten that, you get, voila! SuRa, which satisfies the hero (not sure of audience though)

So I've completed 16 years as a film critic. It's my longest-lasting gig through many career changes, so something must be right :-) Thanks, everyone, for reading and watching.
Here's something I wrote last year...
#DearComrade
really worked for me. There are some things I wish were done better, but the leads are superb and the writing is consistently interesting. On some level, this is a love story -- and yet, it isn't quite.
My jaw kept dropping at Jeethu Joseph's inventions... Some viewers may miss the stomach-churning tension of Part 1, but that’s not (wholly) the point here because the experience is more… existential.

We try to dive into this filmmaker's mind
@galattaplusoffl
I'd pay good money to see Pa Ranjith make a full-on film about an older couple. The abrasive/affectionate bond between Dhina's parents (Attakathi), Kaali's parents in (Madras), Kabali-Kumudhavalli, Kaala-Selvi -- these tracks are better than the romantic tracks of many films.
If ONE scene or arc or motivation or characterisation is unclear, we can extrapolate and say "Okay, maybe this is what it was." But if the WHOLE film requires you to extrapolate, then WE end up "writing" the movie, not the director.
That said, the
#NGK
theories are fascinating
#Vikram
is not just a fitting big-screen comeback for Kamal Haasan. Thanks to Lokesh and team, he finally has on his resumé the Vikram he wanted to make 36 years ago.
