Unsecured food - like bird seed - is a leading cause of human-bear conflicts in Connecticut. @CTDEEPNews + Audubon recommend taking down bird feeders this spring and summer. Birds will be ok, since they rely on caterpillars, insects, + other natural food to feed their young.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is urging residents to take bird feeders down immediately, with spring here and summer on the way. The warning comes as bears are now coming out of hibernation and looking for sources of food.

Birds like the American Kestrel depend on grasshoppers and other insects to feed their young, and train them to forage. Neonic pesticides pose a direct threat to their survival. Tell your lawmaker to support HB6916 and limit these pesticides in CT!

Bald Eagle populations were declining fast in the 1970s, but thanks to increased protections under the Endangered Species Act, the species has rebounded. Now, the bedrock law needs your help. Urge your Members of Congress to stand up for it: https://t.co/RSyJpnmVaL

⏰Urgent action needed today! CT's Appropriations Committee is considering a bill against the use of rodenticides. These poisons may not target birds, but they do kill them in gruesome ways.

Great Horned Owls are early nesters - they lay eggs now, which gives their chicks plenty of time to develop. If you see owls, please stay quiet and give them space to avoid disturbing them at this critical time. If your approach causes a bird to fly, you're too close!
