two paths for the novel.
Zeuxis and Parrhasius had a competition of who could make the most realistic art: Zeuxis painted grapes so realistic that birds went to peck at them. Parrhasius went to pull back the curtain to reveal his work — only to reveal the curtain was a painting. Parrhasius wins!.

interesting that there isn’t (to my knowledge) a novel where corn plays a role like the rockets in gravity’s rainbow or oil in cyclonopedia (putting this in the notes for my indiana book).
its the corn-fed part that is scary. what if us capital were just the agency of corn itself, hoping to universalize its hegemony, both capital and consumer good, both fuel and booze, maze and master?.
