Poet Ian Maxton's (@attheimax) "The Possession" roams across the "spooked-out American map," surveying the machinery of empire and the scorched landscapes it leaves behind.

the season 5 mcnulty plot is also apparently divisive but merely stating what it is should be enough of a defense imo.

the wire is by far the best of the “prestige” tv class and a big part of that is how season two gives you a glimpse of the black hole around which the show orbits but from which it must avert its eyes.

Zeuxis and Parrhasius had a competition of who could make the most realistic art: Zeuxis painted grapes so realistic that birds went to peck at them. Parrhasius went to pull back the curtain to reveal his work — only to reveal the curtain was a painting. Parrhasius wins!.

i sort of remember feeling this way when i watched mon oncle, too, after the first two tati films which maybe have less on their mind but are funnier as a result.

love all the abstract stuff in playtime – it’s pure geometry – and how gags are built around that, but found myself less enamored with the rest.

lots of good reasons for an individual to make different choices than i did and i’m not in the business of advising people on their life based on my own but i do think it is a narcissism that posits academia as substantially worse off than most other sectors.

i am committed to not being neurotic about this whatever happens to me next – my dad used to deliver uniforms and car batteries in the desert heat, his mom spent most of her life in restaurants and factories.

interesting that there isn’t (to my knowledge) a novel where corn plays a role like the rockets in gravity’s rainbow or oil in cyclonopedia (putting this in the notes for my indiana book).

its the corn-fed part that is scary. what if us capital were just the agency of corn itself, hoping to universalize its hegemony, both capital and consumer good, both fuel and booze, maze and master?.
