By saying anti-Blackness is “ontological,” they’re asserting Black suffering is not a product of historical relations of production but an eternal feature of being itself, a cosmic condition, not a social one. That de-historicizes racism and immunizes it from transformation
The socialist is correct here, ending racial capitalism addresses a materialist and economic problem, but it doesn’t however, address the core of anti-blackness, which is an ontological and metaphysical problem.

Kevin Sorbo accidentally makes a great point here: there is no universe in which the investigation into Epstein/Trump links should have still been active in 2024; if it was, Democrats should have broken with precedent to release these docs in Oct 2024. It was a break glass moment
My question is this: didn't the Dems have control over these emails for 4 years, after an 8-year investigation into Trump? Is it not even the slightest bit odd that they kept this email for so long before releasing it? If I had this evidence, I would have published it

This video clip suggests to me that they actually thought this was going to work lol
Scott Bessent: We inherited this affordability crisis. It was the worst inflation in 40, 50 years-- one of the worst in history... In the first quarter, second quarter of next year, the American people are gonna start feeling better. This has been a tough period. So not on day

I agree with this: it’s over. What comes next feels pretty terrifying though!
horrible economy sleepwalking into recession, trump being a pedophile, trump abandoning the far right on h1b visas, i don’t think i’ve ever needed more proof that MAGA is dead, i can’t see this coalition making a comeback at any point, this is incredible lol

Trump is not going to go to work again. Sorry! He’s retired and blowing money on a remodel.
New: The White House is privately discussing having Trump travel the country to give economy-focused speeches as they weigh a number of strategies to improve his standing on the issue of affordability, administration officials tell me Behind the scenes on the talks

This cliche is so unworthy of Adorno's thinking. It reminds me of what the republic, which i just finished teaching, helps us see about music's centripetal, unity-founding power, that it has always been a disciplinary force, which is why the guardians set up their watchtower there

I gotta say, I really think what Trump is doing to the White House is great. We need a disruption of the symbolic order holding together our concept of the State to match the level of crisis we face. Let no one be fooled any longer!
Trump: Take a look at this if you want to see detail. Most people do a sign and paint it on the wall. So that's half inch thick bronze. Carved. By a very talented person. And it's brass. It's pure brass.

hello it’s me the ornament guy: just like fashion, ornamental design is a social language informed by history, and rooms having an inscribed name like this simply doesn’t have any real precedents in the kind of European past this font is trying to evoke
this sort of aesthetic feels low brow to me, so maybe there isn't an equivalent. but i'd be curious to see if there are examples of someone putting up text like this using non-stock font, properly kerned, hand-carved letters. i'm curious to see differences in craftsmanship

Katie Wilson, 43, is poised to become Seattle’s next mayor after overtaking incumbent Bruce Harrell by about 1,300 votes in one of the city’s tightest races on record. A longtime organizer, Wilson co-founded the Transit Riders Union, a grassroots group that campaigns for
Katie Wilson is now almost certainly Seattle's 58th mayor. We spoke just now: "We’re going to wait for all of the ballots to be counted, but I think we won this race."

Whether it’s reindustrialization or home ownership, until Americans (& elites especially) grapple with the concept of political economy, nothing in this country will be solved, especially by market forces

i think most people are getting pretty sick of masculinity crisis discourse and this piece is very clear-eyed about why (masculinity has been reduced to an empty, generic exceptionalism, proven by the fact that every attempt to flesh it out ends in a different variety of cringe)
