You and the team should be very proud of this work. It's adoption will change the way photometry is done and how dopamine signaling is analyzed.

Our fluorescence lifetime photometry at high temporal resolution (FLIPR) paper is now online at Neuron. FLIPR allows for fast (10Hz-1 kHz) and slow (min-hrs) measurement of absolute neuronal signals in freely moving mice. We highlight the utility by measuring tonic and phasic DA.

This is very sad news. Such a colossal loss of a great person and a great scientist. I will never forget his kindness and intellect. I have the privilege to know him.

Jim Hudspeth has died 💔 I am so sad. He was probably my favorite hearing researcher of all time. Absolute genius and also generous - he spent hours on the phone advising me on my career even tho we barely knew each other. May his memory be a blessing.

Supported by @Fr_BioImaging's User Access Grant Access-4942, we managed to resolve the 3D ultrastructure of the mechanosensitive nerve ending of the locust auditory neuron using FIB-SEM at @ImagerieGif with the help of Claire Bouelogne. preprint doi: 10.1101/2025.06.27.662008

After years of work, our study is out in PNAS! We preserved the active process ex vivo in the mammalian cochlea and show that local criticality near a Hopf bifurcation drives amplification. Grateful to Francesco Gianoli, Brian Fabella, and Jim Hudspeth. 🔗

How do insects hear? In this preprint, we reveal a stunning 3D ultrastructure of the insect mechanosensory nerve ending. Then, through separate experiments, we show that axial stretch along its axis is the mechanism that activates the auditory neuron. https://t.co/UFtmi2adAR

Why do bees bite flowers when buzz pollinating? Here, with @CharlieZoology and the @HFSP -funded team we show that biting helps bees to increase the amount of shaking applied to flowers, potentially releasing more pollen. Free access until 5 Oct! https://t.co/QllaZPFvr6

We, foreign researchers, are not welcomed here in the UK. I don't encourage any one to come to work here and I will soon move out too. The likely incoming labour government won't change that either because anti-immigration has become the norm of UK politics.

do u know of someone who may be interested in starting a lab as a junior PI in Korea, to work on perceptual decision-making in mice? besides postdocs, we would consider someone fresh out of grad school too, or someone who wants to be a staff scientist for the longer term. 1/
