Some news of a personal nature: I've joined @nttventurecap as executive-in-residence. Really excited to take all I've learned in 13 years covering @business and @technology at @Bloomberg and in my year at @StanfordGSB to identify and partner with category-defining startups.

🧵How many software engineers secretly work 2+ jobs? My research group at Stanford has access to private code repos covering 100K+ engineers at ~1,000 companies: ~0.5% of the world’s developers. Our data shows that 4.1% of software engineers are working 2+ jobs.

At the end of the academic year, I’m hoping I can apply some of what I’ve learned in over a decade as a financial journalist at the coalface of the industries I’ve been covering. If you’re in this neck of the woods and have time for a coffee, do hit me up! ENDS/

A few story highlights: This scoop with the great @DavidWelch47, which was the first time anyone had shown that the faked test results in the dieselgate scandal were administered from Germany. The story took billions off VW’s market cap. 3/

It was an incredibly rewarding and formative stint, working with generous and impressive people. @cullenang & Chad Thomas took a risk on a graduate fresh out of journalism school and have, I’m sure, long since lived to regret it. 🤪 2/

Something in the way of personal news: after 13 years in Frankfurt, Munich, San Francisco and London, I decided in June to leave the only job I’ve ever had and venture out into the world beyond Bloomberg. 1/

That's an interesting wrinkle because Apple, in recent years, has managed to grow revenue even as unit sales slowed. That was at least in part because it was convincing people to buy more expensive handsets. Let's see if that has been affected.
