Update #3: Bean has been adopted in Bohol! A neighbor of the vet who has been fostering her fell in love and Bean is officially in her forever home. She’s gotten SO big and will be spayed soon.

We’ve never done something like this before, but unfortunately cats are not popular pets in the Philippines. We’re extremely thankful to Bohol Animal Rescue & Kindness (BARK) and Seaside Veterinary Clinic for their help in getting Bean the care she needs.

Update #2: We’re back in the States, but the adventure continues! We’re working with a local Bohol rescue and veteranarian’s office to get Bean vaccinated and spayed, with the goal of hopefully getting permits to bring her and a few other kittens to the U.S. in a few months!

Update: we took her to the vet in Bohol and got her started on medication. A local rescue is asking their foster homes if they can take her in. If not, the vet said we can take her back and they will find some place for her. Feeling optimistic!

Picture of the sweet bean for reference - she’s a total sweetheart and definitely adoptable. She just needs antibiotics, food, and somewhere to stay that isn’t a semi-remote beach town resort.

There’s no veterinarian or formal rescue/shelters on Panglao. We can’t travel with her, but we can take her to the mainland and pay for initial vet care. Who can help? What organizations can we call? We have two more days before we leave.

By our estimate, she’s less than 10 weeks old. She has discharge in both eyes and congestion/conjunctivitis. We bought kitten food and smuggled her into our hotel room for the night.

This is a long shot, but here we go…I need a rescue or foster for a kitten we found in Panglao, Philippines. We found her alone (waited an entire day to see if the mother would show up), and she is very skinny. She also has a pretty severe upper respiratory infection 🧵

We are so quick to forget the repercussions of wide-spread, fear-based vilification. The blame always lies with those in power who use violence and terror as tools to claim or maintain power, while the people they claim to represent become nothing but collateral damage.
I agree w/ President Biden when he said “But I caution this — while you feel that rage, don’t be consumed by it. After 9/11, we were enraged in the United States. While we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes.” Destruction & occupation of Gaza aren’t the answer.
