My first PhD chapter is out! We explored mercy release—a growing practice of species introductions—and hybrid groupers, notorious predators. These fish prey on diverse species, risking coastal ecosystems if unmanaged.I hope this research inspires more attention on mercy release!
Invasive species are one the greatest threats to #biodiversity. The problem may be made worse if hybrids are involved because they are artificially selected in captivity for fast growth, resilience and wide dietary requirements. Little is known about the scale of the threat that

It is finally published! Through UVC we found 31 new reef fish records in Hong Kong. None of these records were found in any established marine parks/reserve areas, implying more protected areas are need to safeguard yet to be known biodiversity. https://t.co/Bh0Xg9Xj45

Happy to be part of the field camp again as a demonstrator this year! Spent three days teaching students ecology in the same field site as I did in my undergrad year, just the same as how @felixlandryyuan had taught me years ago :)

The latest issue of Science has a cover story about new research on sunscreens and coral reefs, a popular subject. The prominent exposure may play into some misconceptions about what is happening to the world's coral reefs (mini-🧵)

We've had a very interesting and productive week at the “Theory and practice in metabarcoding for biodiversity” workshop. It has been so nice to interact with 35 young metabarcoders from all across the globe! A big thank you to all participants!!! #ibiogen #H2020 #metabarcoding

Just about everyone I’ve ever interviewed or photographed while covering the 2014 protests — at the start of my career — and the 2019 protests has been arrested, is in jail, or in exile. The entire cast of characters of the story of democracy in Hong Kong gone in one fell swoop.

Really happy to share my works and also receive so many feedbacks from colleagues... Looking forward to explore more!
Are released man-made hybrid groupers going to pose a threat? @arthurcyc will be able to tell us more soon as he just defended his proposal. @SWIMSHKU #teamfish #grouper #postgrad #Marinescience
