I love working at the Times and most days of the week I'm very proud to be part of its mission. But tonight, I understand the people who treat me like I work at a tobacco company. I stand with my colleagues.

Been thinking about this vis-a-vis California. CA 40M, 3ish major population centers vs SK 53M.
Since I fear our standards for national pandemic response are being recalibrated, remember S. Korea has 1/6th the population of the US, but 1/53 the # of #COVID19 deaths to date (183) as the US (9,619). Both countries found their 1st case Jan 20. Scaled would be 1,166 US deaths.

Two weeks ago, NY and CA had roughly the same # of #COVID cases. Why is NY now 10x higher? Great @Forbes interview with the thoughtful @Bob_Wachter
