Fantastic opportunity to join the team and improve our understanding of the role of the ocean in communicating Arctic change to lower latitudes.
Glory be! The @sos_bangor_uni @arctic_connect postdoc is finally live! 2 years of funding to come and work with me, and Helen Johnson of Oxford University on how ice and freshwater influence Arctic SST and the consequences for climate. Closing 24 April https://t.co/27VlT6A0wE

The hypothesis that a weakened north-south temperature gradient leads to a wavier jet stream will be a focus of our project. Many open questions: it is a robust response? If so, how large is the effect? How does it relate to other theories/hypotheses? Can models capture it? etc
Confused about the #PolarVortex? Usually a strong jet stream confines Arctic air to the north, stabilized by a big difference in temperature between low and high latitudes. The smaller the difference in temperature, the more the wind belts meander (Via @RemoteLongitude & @NOAA)

Make that 3 postdocs! @OxfordAOPP have advertised their post, looking at changing midlatitude extreme weather in response to Arctic sea-ice loss. You'd work with @TimWoollings @ssparrow01 (& wider team) using @CPDN_BOINC very large model ensembles ๐ฅ๏ธ https://t.co/wIDS1ib8hm
Welcome to all the new followers! If you, or people you know, are interested in joining our team, we have two postdoctoral positions @UniofExeter and four PhD studentships (2 @UniofExeter, 1 @BristolUni, 1 @unisouthampton) advertised. More details on each can be found below ๐งตโฌ๏ธ
