@ACSEnergyLett The next time you see a paper claiming photocharging of a Li or Zn metal anode pay close attention to the conduction band positions and anode plating potentials. We suspect that photocatalysed reactions with oxygen leaking through the cell are responsible for the rise in voltage.

Since my PhD began in October 2021, about 30 papers have been published on different materials that can be used in Li & Zn photobatteries. In research published in @ACSEnergyLett we show that the physics of these systems renders 'photocharging' impossible!.

Excited to share the final paper from my undergrad. We use a bit of math to produce a single "effective" refractive index for a core-shell nanoparticle. Accuracies far exceed previous theories. Hopefully this will help speed up your plasmonic calculations!

Al–Cu core-shell nanoparticles as an alternative to noble metal plasmo. .In this paper published in Materials Chemistry and Physics, we investigate whether a thin copper shell can stabilize and improve the plasmonic properties of Al nanoparticles.
