Project Eleven is an applied lab of builders & technologists at the intersection of quantum computing and cryptography formed in 2024 who see the coming collision of these two technologies. Today, I'm excited to announce that I've joined Project Eleven as a founder & CEO. Why.

The most obvious initial use case to demonstrate for the minimum viable quantum computer is cryptanalysis. With expert timelines shifting among the physics community, it's time for the cryptography/security community to shift it's timelines, too. Or risk a massive security gap.

IBM + Google both now plan to launch quantum computers by 2028 that are practical for real-world problems. Startups like PsiQuantum (the which just raised $1b) are building on the same timeline. It's looking more and more like a race and less and less like a research project.

There's a major tech story that everyone's sleeping on at the moment. Over the last 6-12 months, the timelines for scalable quantum computing among experts have notably shifted **left** because of the remarkable progress in error correction and more.

I've always believed open-source innovation is the lifeblood of any digital asset ecosystem. Unfortunately, many of the open-source libraries that exist today are built for the ECC era. Excited to fund Doruk & other leading researchers to help build the foundation for the PQC era.

$BTC, $ETH, $SOL. any blockchain network you can think of today will need to be *fundamentally re-architected* from the lowest level. This will take time, and must be done carefully. So even if you believe that a CRQC is a decade away, the time to start that effort is now.

The answer to this question is especially important for blockchains, where the distributed and public nature of the ledger were exactly where signature aggregation & zk proofs found a real world use-case. In a world after ECC, existing architectures will have to change.

The slide above (from the recent ECC workshop celebrating 40 years of elliptic curve cryptography poses an important question. How can we replicate these primitives in the post-quantum world? Neither of the current @NIST-standardized algorithms (based on lattices and hashes).
