Business | Politics | Strategy. Not always in that order. Former Member of Parliament for Burnley (2019-2024).

“the Tories managed to add 9,000 more additional homes *during the pandemic* than Angela Rayner managed during her time as Housing Secretary” What was that slogan again… ‘Change’…
Absolutely damning new housing stats out this morning. The number of net additional new dwellings during Labour's first year in office fell by 6% compared to the Tories. The number of new builds fell by 8,000. In total they oversaw just 190,000 new homes built in 24/25,

Another example of an economically illiterate Labour politician.
It’s getting harder to afford essentials — the weekly shop, rent and mortgages. Why? Household incomes have fallen for a decade while billionaires doubled their wealth. We must stop this transfer of wealth to the rich. Tax the richest to deliver a Budget for Living Standards.

Let's make one thing clear: Shabhana Mahmood wouldn't have been able to make her announcement today without powers Conservatives wrote into law, under the last government. Powers that she and Labour voted down...

Regardless of who's in power, we should all want the Government to control our borders. Some of the things the Home Secretary announced today are a step in the right direction. But her proposals don't go far enough. Half measures backed by tough rhetoric get headlines, but not

The Home Secretary is absolutely right that the immigration system is broken. But what grates a bit is how she and so many others in the Labour Party accused those of us on the right of engaging in dog whistle politics, or using immigration simply as some ‘red meat’, when we

Love this. And no, it’s not about ‘free tuition’. It’s a university rethinking its entire model. I hope this succeeds and offers a model for many others to follow. Though if any UK establishment was to do similar we’d need a culture shift towards philanthropy in education.
UATX will never charge tuition. And we will never take government money. Here's why. Graduates spend decades shouldering debt for hollow credentials. This debt influences every decision they make: What job to take. Where to live. When to marry. When to have children. Some will

Labour economics on show again… they think breakfast costs for parents amount to £450 ‘a month’… 🤦♂️

Answer: Yes.
A heretical thought is starting to circulate amongst Labour figures: was the Rwanda plan right all along? Fascinating from Josh Glancy in today’s Sunday Times… https://t.co/7Rvyg4M95Y

What ridiculous language here. Feeding your child is not an “out of pocket” expense for a parent, nor is providing their clothing (including a school uniform) - it’s the basic requirement of bringing a child into the world. That so many - including the PM - think it isn’t tells
Parents shouldn’t be out of pocket by setting their children up for school. That’s why we are rolling out free breakfast clubs and from next September, schools will be required to limit branded items of uniform. Saving families £500 and giving kids the best start in life.

A great thread from Kemi, setting out why this Chinese spy case matters
I don’t blame you if you’ve struggled to follow the China spying case engulfing parliament. Even MPs are finding it hard to keep up with a story that seems to change by the hour. I suspect many fair-minded people have assumed this story can’t contain much. It seems too

Spot on. China is a threat to the UK. The sooner we wake up to that the better. And for the avoidance of doubt, that has to include pushing industry to reduce our economic dependence on them. This isn’t a game. Future generations will suffer the consequences if we don’t.
China has: - spied on Parliament - attacked dissidents- - threatened Hongkongers - stolen technology - collapsed businesses But somehow they claim the UK has shown “disregard for contractual spirit, acting in bad faith and without integrity”. And they end it with a threat: The

Finally something I can agree with Starmer on. But here’s the difference. He’s got the ability to do something about it. Mobilise police resources to ensure our streets are safe for everyone.
This is the wrong decision. We will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets. The role of the police is to ensure all football fans can enjoy the game, without fear of violence or intimidation. https://t.co/8aBeqE4qbA

C4 news once again showing its amateurish coverage. Spying has always existed and always will. Trying some kind of “aha, it happened on your watch” is not only childish but also undermines the seriousness. And they also happen to ignore that exposure of this instance, and the
C4News, "All these alleged crimes took place when the Conservatives were in government, didn't you drop the ball here?" Chris Philp, "I'm pretty clear China was a threat" But didn't do anything about it eh? 🤷♂️

As I said yesterday, this is still not getting the coverage it should. Read this post from @DPJHodges. Can anyone hand on heart say that they believe Starmer and the Labour Party are the right people to lead our country? They are either uninterested in matters of national
So this is where we are this morning. Keir Starmer's position literally is: a) Matthew Collins was asked to provide additional evidence on the China threat by the CPS. b) Collins failed to discuss this with either his boss, or Ministers. c) Collins unilaterally cut and pasted

This case isn’t getting the attention it deserves. It’s important not just because of the clear national security implication, and the kowtowing to China that this Government is clearly following, but because it goes to the heart of who is responsible for safeguarding our
Keir Starmer now looks like he will have no choice but to publish the critical evidence that led to the collapse of the China spy trial after another extraordinary row with the CPS Once again the government’s version of events in this case is being publicly challenged by another

Our Government is, and should always be, accountable solely to Parliament and the British people. That’s it. Be very suspicious of any politician who suggests otherwise.
Being accountable to an international court means our Government has to answer to them if it tries to undermine your human rights. Be very suspicious of any UK politician who wants to remove that check on their powers. Share this and speak up for your freedoms.

Without a doubt this is the case. The Conservative Party has work to do, to show what it’s about, how it’s changed, and why it can be trusted. But ultimately its success will come back because of what it is made up of. Serious, dedicated, and thoughtful people who put in the
An exclusive Ipsos poll for The Spectator has found that a majority of Brits believe that the Tories still have another general election win in them. ✍️ Lucy Dunn
