THEY’VE DONE IT!
G & B have successfully skied unsupported for 52 days to the SOUTH POLE!!
After emotional phone calls to loved ones, theyre off to the catering tent for a well deserved hot meal, beer & use of a real toilet!
Congrats to these incredible women!
We are so proud!
Our

of skiing to the South Pole finally draws to an end after punishing winds, plummeting temperatures towards the pole, sastrugi and white outs.

Yes we may be fire fighters, but we're also 6

showing women what women can do.💪We're wives, partners, mothers, grandmothers & daughters. We're all ages, shapes & sizes. Ambitious, vulnerable & courageous, just live every human being
This moment in time, utterly priceless.
We met 4 years ago and have now shared something incredibly unique.
The hardships endured, physicality, patience, shear exertion to near exhaustion required has forged a friendship this picture freezes in time.

DAY 51: mixed emotions as they complete their penultimate day of skiing & set up camp for their last night.
When you read this it’ll be the LAST DAY! so they’re going to have to dig deep to push on to the southernmost point of the Earth!!

DAY 37:
An incredibly tough day in degree 86.
Characterised by its strong winds, deep snow and sastrugi. Despite this, G&B now very much have the end goal in sight, still managed 26km in nearly 11 hours today and are in really good spirits. 417km to go.
DAY 50:
30km skied, absolutely exhausted but in great spirits!
Theve set up camp- strange now being able to now see other tents in the distance as they approach the pole.
They plan to reach the Pole late Thurs night.

A strong 18km skied today over relentless Sastrugi often 3/4feet high. They’ll have to continue to dig deep.
They’ve got tired bodies but feeling fresh after a change of undies.

DAY 48:
G&B showed real grit skiing 11 hours to get their 28km target today.
They’re in high spirits and excited to cross the final threshold into the final degree on day 49.
4 days and 136km to go!

DAY 49:
Great day for G&B
Crossed into final degree & made good ground.
In the final degree youre not allowed to leave any waste, meaning they have to bag up all their poo and carry it with them to the Pole.
3 days and 100km to go!

They’ve landed at Union Glacier Base Camp- Antarctica!! A day or so here before heading off towards the South Pole.

Two female firefighters will ski 1,130km from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole - unsupported, unguided and unassisted
They will be pulling supply sleds weighing about 90kg

By the time you listen to this it’ll be Xmas Day.
27 km today & currently around 2000m above sea level. The South Pole is around 2800m above sea level, so all their skiing is uphill.

DAY 39:
A much better day today. Incredible what a bit of rest and self care can do. Bex’s wife Kirsty sent over all the messages of support from everyone on yesterday’s social media posts which also really helped motivate them…

DAY 47:
28km despite being extremely cold now & Both still dealing with a cough & tired bodies.
Currently at an altitude of around 3000m.
B&G are excited to have a shower after such a long time out on the ice.
5 days and 154km to go!

DAY 9: Entire day up& down Sastrugi, dragging 100kg,in total white out. For all the firefighters- like being in a totally smoke logged room with no landmarks.
Very arduous conditions.
However, they’re still in high spirits!
Lets wish them a bit of sunshine in the coming days!☀️
DAY 45:
A tough Sassy up hill day. Coldest day so far with headwinds of -27 degrees.
Ice build up on their face masks & a ‘snot ice’ incident that Bex had to contend with!
But 28km achieved and now into the 88th degree.

DAY 38:
Difficult conditions today and after a couple of hours G&B took decide to set up camp as G was struggling with exhaustion & anxiety.
After a good sleep they packed up the & carried. Still managed an impressive 18km.

They’ve passed the 100km mark & have made camp for the night after a full and tiring ten hours of skiing.
Bex shows gratitude to Toby who has taught them everything they need to know about completing a polar expedition & surviving in extreme cold. Thanks Toby!
DAY 24:
An AMAZING 27km today!
George & Bex figured that they should make the most of getting the mileage in whilst it’s such good weather.

DAY 31:
Another 28km smashed out today.
Taking advantage of the great weather, despite the snow feeling like sand.
Bex tells how she’s just as clumsy with her feet in Antarctica as she is in her everyday life & had to fix the end of her skis with tape.
It's official.We have reached the McMurdo station on Antarctica! A Fire Fighter from the station there,

DAY 35 (Xmas day):
7 hours skiing & 20km in a white. The girls treated themselves to an early finish, some Xmas cake, baileys & Xmas movie.
Hopefully feeling well rested as they start to push harder towards the pole for the final couple of weeks.

DAY 40:
George & Bex are in high spirits. The sun is out so they can see again & dry off.
Current altitude- 8000ft. Air is much thinner. So skiing is hard work- esp with all the soft snow & sastrugi.
Still smashed out a rather nice 28km! 347km to go!
DAY 46:
A difficult day of sastrugi & sand like snow. This has become the norm but doesn’t deter B&G reaching their daily 28km
Both feeling the affects of altitude as they continue to clime towards the Antarctic Plateau

Total white out. The sun teasing that it’ll come out all day.
G&B hit their 28km for the day but had to ski for longer than normal to ensure they’re on target.
Very tired bodies now running off will power.

DAY 41- New Year’s Eve: Another 28km & make it to the 87th degree, B&G have settled down for the night with Spag Bol & miniature gins to see in the new year! It’s a cold windy night so hopefully the gin will help warm the cockles.

An incredible 27km in 10hrs today!
Heightened emotions for George as its her & her partner- Bron’s 16 yr anniversary. Moments like these make u realise how much u miss loved ones.
Also reflects on the journey to get where they r now& how close they r to their end goal
The distance the Antarctic Fire Angels will ski everyday for 70 days in order to traverse Antarctica from Berkner Island-South Pole-Axel Heiberg Glacier-Ross Ice Shelf. No female team has done this route before.

Almost 22km covered today, so now 135km covered so far.
They’ve just crossed the 81st degree. The South Pole is at 90 degrees south.

3 WEEKS on the ice & over 400km travelled!
Lots of up & down enormous Sastrugi. With their heavy pulks.

DAY 14:
Another 20+ km covered today, so good progress.
As they approach the quarter way mark of the expedition, Bex explains their daily routines &how they take it in turns to do the different jobs.
Melting snow, cooking, securing tent, snow skirt, digging poo hole.
DAY 25:
26km skied today. Almost 510km in total.
A “Sassy” day having to manoeuvre around the large sastrugi.
G had the lush task of having to redo B’s plaits (note how long they haven’t showered for) & both of them are craving fresh food.
