To fully contextualize the current man-made hunger crisis in Sudan and to recognize that it has been decades in the making, we must turn to...histories of famine denial, structural adjustment, the weaponization of hunger, empire-making, and the politicization of aid." (5/5)

But these deadly tactics of obstruction, displacement, and starvation alone cannot account for the crisis levels of hunger people are currently facing. (4/5)

Note that the heaviest target has been the 'bread basket' of the West Bank (i.e. the fertile agricultural lands in the 'triangle' of Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarm). This is after nearly two decades of the poisoning of soil, water and air (astronomical cancer rates).
This isn’t just any dairy factory. It’s the al-Juneidi plant, a key producer that supports West Bank farmers and local food supply. This attack signals that wider aggression, ethnic cleansing, and bloodshed are coming to the West Bank. The genocide didn’t end, it will expand.

As a garnish for street foods, a basis for stews and sauces, and a seasoning in home-cooked favorites, the tomato has cemented its place in the modern Egyptian diet. But it is also a symbol of resistance, writes @annygaul.

"When I first moved to Cairo, I encountered tomatoes everywhere," @annygaul writes. But their popularity in Egypt is a recent phenomenon. How did this nightshade become ubiquitous on the Nile? An excerpt of Anny's new cultural history in @ForeignPolicy:

I hope the bibliography will serve as a resource to students, journalists, educators, scholars, and anyone else with an interest in understanding and advocating for Palestine through food.

The list includes scholarship and technical expertise alongside cookbooks and works of art, film, and memoir. Assembled in the face of genocide, famine, attacks on olive trees and seed banks, the works on the list attest to Palestinian steadfastness & rootedness in the land.
